Chapter 30 He Didn't Want Her to Leave

The room's light flicked on, and Ava saw Alexander on top of her. She breathed a sigh of relief and glanced at the clock—it was 1 AM.

"Why are you back?" she asked.

"Is it strange for me to come home?" He smelled of alcohol and leaned down to kiss her, his hands skillfully unbuttoning her nightgown.

Ava used all her strength to push him away, hastily covering his mouth with her hand. "Let go of me!"

Alexander grabbed her hands and pinned them down. "Don't you want me to sleep with you anymore?"

"Aren't you with Isabella? Be with her. Why come back here?"

Did Alexander think he could sit on the fence? Did he think he could goof around with Isabella or her?

"Do I need a reason to come home?" Alexander was irritated as he squeezed her face. "As long as we're not divorced, you're still my wife. You have to fulfill your duties as a wife!"

He forcefully kissed her again.

"Let go of me!" Ava struggled desperately. She was pregnant and her baby was unstable, so she couldn't risk having sex.

"Don't move!"

He didn't want to hurt her. He had never forced her before—this was the first time.

Alexander's teeth grazed her neck. Ava closed her eyes in resignation and said sarcastically, "Alexander, aren’t you sorry for Isabella when you are doing this?"

Alexander suddenly stopped. He looked up at Ava's pale face, her lips curled in a mocking smile, her eyes staring at him intensely. After what felt like an eternity, he got off her and lay down beside her.

Ava sighed in relief and quickly cradled her belly. Thankfully, everything seemed fine.

Fearing he might lose control again, she got out of bed to sleep in the next room.

Suddenly, Alexander grabbed her wrist. "Don't go."

Ava gritted her teeth and pulled her hand away. "When you asked for a divorce, you lost the right to say that."

Without hesitation, she left the room.

However, in the next room, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He was clearly drunk; what if he felt unwell during the night? What if he couldn't find water?

Anxious, she got up in the middle of the night, poured a glass of cold water, and carefully walked back to his room. Alexander was asleep, still fully dressed.

Ava placed the glass of water on the nightstand, unbuttoned his shirt to make him more comfortable, covered him with a blanket, and left the room.

The next morning, Ava woke up early. After washing up, she went back to the room to change clothes and saw that Alexander was already up. He had washed up and was dressed in a sharp suit, looking completely different from his disheveled state the night before.

Out of the corner of her eye, Ava noticed the empty glass on the nightstand. He had drunk the water.

Good thing she had left the water; otherwise, he might have been in trouble. She once read the news about a man who got drunk, woke up thirsty, and couldn't find water. In his drunken state, he didn't know how to look for it and died from dehydration.

Neither of them spoke.

Remembering his call from the previous day, Ava walked up to him. "You called me yesterday and said you had something to discuss. What was it?"

Alexander finished adjusting his tie and turned to her. "Come to my office at noon."

"To sign the divorce papers?" Ava asked bluntly. She hoped to finalize the divorce quickly to avoid prolonging the sadness.
