Chapter 29 Nice Meeting You
William extended his hand with a smile. "Nice meeting you. I'm William Bennett, president of Blue Sky Group."
Ava finally realized William had been keeping his own counsel. Blue Sky Group was a major corporation, with countless people vying to get in each year for its top-notch benefits. Like SK Group, it was a multinational company with substantial financial resources, and the two companies were even competitors in some areas.
Ava raised her hand to shake his. "Nice meeting you. I'm Ava."
After they shook hands, they each withdrew their hands.
"So, should I call you Mrs. Mitchell from now on?" William asked.
"No, I won't be Mrs. Mitchell for much longer," Ava replied.
William now understood what she had said, but he didn't say anything more. What was going on was obvious to anyone paying attention.
They chatted outside for a while and took a walk before returning to the hospital room. Ava didn't see Alexander again and wondered if they had left. Given how Alexander treated Isabella, he would move heaven and earth for her.
William noticed Ava's troubled expression and seemed to guess what was on her mind, but he didn't comment.
Ava stayed with William for about two more hours, talking about various things. She was surprised to find that they had a lot in common and shared similar views. They were so engrossed in conversation that Ava lost track of time until her phone rang. It was Alexander.
She answered, "Hello?"
"Come home. I need to talk to you," Alexander said.
"What is it? Just tell me now."
"Are you planning to spend the night with William?" His tone was cold and unpleasant.
Ava glanced at William, realizing she shouldn't stay any longer. "Got it."
She figured he wanted her to sign the divorce papers. The sooner, the better.
After ending the call, Ava put her phone back in her bag. "Mr. Bennett, it's getting late. I should go. Is there anything else you need from me?"
"You can go," William replied.
"I'll visit you again tomorrow."
"I'll be discharged early tomorrow. Let's have a meal together sometime. Your treat."
"Sure," Ava said, feeling grateful to William. Just walking with him didn't seem enough to repay his kindness.
After a few more words, Ava left the hospital room. Not long after she left, William picked up his phone and dialed a number. "Bring the car around. I'm leaving."
With Ava gone, he didn't want to stay at the hospital.
When Ava got home, she expected Alexander to be there since he had said he needed to talk to her. But he wasn't. She asked the butler, who confirmed that Alexander hadn't come home.
He had called her back, only not to show up himself. Frustrated, Ava dialed his number. He answered after a short while. "Hello?"
"You said you needed to talk to me. Why aren't you home?"
"Something came up. I'll be back later."
"Something with Miss Harrington again?" Ava asked, her voice tinged with sarcasm.
"Yes," Alexander replied without hesitation as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Ava felt both angry and amused. "Fine, whatever."
She hung up, resisting the urge to throw her phone in frustration.
Later that night, as Ava was drifting off to sleep, she suddenly felt someone pressing down on her. Startled, she screamed.
"It's me," Alexander said, covering her mouth.
