Chapter 960 Going to See Him

Ava glanced down at herself, noticing she was fully dressed and tidy. Alexander was, too.

"What happened last night?" she asked.

"You fainted, so I brought you here to rest. You slept like a rock," Alexander said, trying to reassure her.

Ava looked at her clean clothes. "Did you change my clothes?"

Alexander hesitated, guilt gnawing at him for almost crossing a line last night. He couldn't meet her eyes and mumbled, "I had a female nurse do it."

Ava let out a breath of relief. Maybe last night was just a weird dream; she thought she felt someone kissing her all over.

"Did you stay with me all night?" she asked.

"Yeah, I was worried about you," Alexander replied.

Ava was about to ask more when she suddenly remembered something important. "How's Vincent? Is he okay?"

"He made it through and is in the ICU now."

Ava sighed in relief. "I need to see him."

She got out of bed and headed for the door.

Alexander followed her. "Ava."

He grabbed her arm.

She turned, "What?"

"You can't see him right now."

"I'll just look from outside." Ava shook off his hand and left the room.

At the ICU, she could only watch Vincent through the glass. He was hooked up to all sorts of machines, the heart monitor beeping steadily.

She placed her hands on the glass and whispered, "I'm so sorry. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be hurt. You have to get better. I still owe you ten thousand dollars, remember?"

Alexander overheard and stepped closer. "What do you mean you owe him ten thousand dollars?"

"He saved me, so I promised to pay him," Ava explained.

Alexander frowned. "So it's just a deal? And he only asked for ten thousand dollars?"

That seemed too low. It didn't add up.

Ava continued, "Ten thousand dollars and a week with him. But after three days, he was going to let me go. I could've left this morning, but you guys barged in and hurt him."

Alexander's eyes widened in panic. He grabbed her shoulders. "He wanted you to stay for a week? Did he... did he hurt you?"

Ava pushed him away. "It's not what you think."

"Then what is it? He kept you for a week, didn't let you contact anyone. He imprisoned you! Why are you defending him?" Alexander was almost shouting.

Was Ava suffering from Stockholm syndrome?

"Alexander, can you just listen? It's not what you think. Why won't you let me explain?"
