Chapter 622 Unbelievable

"Ava, can you promise me first that if I tell you, even if you're angry with me, you won't leave me? I will change. I know I was wrong, and I've been feeling guilty."

"William, just tell me what it is." The more Ava listened, the more uneasy she felt. She wasn't worried about William had done something bad but rather that he wasn't expressing his emotions, which wasn't good for his health.

William wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes with a tissue. "Yesterday at the restaurant, I argued with Alexander."

Ava nodded. "I know, that wasn't your fault. It must have been Alexander bullying you. He's done it many times before, and he’s even fought with you. I know it wasn't your fault. You don't need to blame yourself."

"No, I do blame myself. Ava, can you let me finish?"

Ava nodded. "Okay, take your time, I'm listening."

"After dinner yesterday, you left for a while, and then Isabella left, too. It was just me and him. Alexander seemed very dissatisfied with me, looking at me with a strange expression. Anyway, we ended up arguing. He kept insisting that you belonged to him and that he would always take you back. He didn't say it directly, but his words made me very angry. Ava, can you understand those feelings? The things he said..."

"I understand." Ava held his hand. "William, I really understand. Anyone would be very angry. I know what kind of person he is and what kind of things he would say."

"I was really upset at the time," William continued, "He said things that provoked me, and I got really angry. I rushed over to confront him. I even wanted to hit him because I was so mad. I'm sorry."

"It's okay, I understand how you feel. He can be very infuriating. I've even lost my temper with him, so it's understandable that you would, too. You don't need to apologize for that."

She thought, 'After all, anger is a natural human emotion. When faced with provocation, it's hard to keep emotions in check, and there's nothing to blame for that.'

"It's not just that," William continued, "Even though it was his fault, I did something afterward."

"What did you do?" Ava asked uneasily.

"He didn't actually push me. He just shook off my hand. I saw you coming, so I pretended to fall and hit my head. I wanted you to misunderstand him."

Ava was stunned by William's words. She looked at him in shock, unable to process them for a moment. It felt like she had misheard.

She pondered, 'How could William do something so deceitful? But this wasn’t a dream or an illusion.' She pinched her hand to make sure it hurt.

Seeing the disbelief in Ava's eyes, William hurriedly said, "Are you mad at me?" He held her hand tightly. "Ava, you must be really angry, right?"

Ava pulled her hand away, shocked. "Why would you do such a thing? No matter how angry you were, you shouldn't frame someone."

Ava's tone wasn't angry; even somewhat calm, but the disbelief in her eyes showed how much this had impacted her.

She thought William had always been a gentleman, graceful and upright. How could he do something sinister?
