Chapter 729 Giving Her Hope

Ava lowered her head, gently rubbing her belly. "What if he doesn't call me?"

A flicker of something dark crossed William's eyes. He leaned in and whispered, "If he doesn't call, it means he really doesn't want the baby."

Tears streamed down Ava's face.

Feeling her tremble, William quickly pulled her into a hug, his arms strong and reassuring. "Don't cry, love. It's my fault. I'm not good with words, but I know he'll call. How could he not? We'll wait together. No matter what, I'm here for you."

He stroked the back of her head, a sly smile tugging at his lips.

He thought, 'Alexander must not have heard Ava last night. If he knew she was pregnant, he'd be all over her.'

'If I'm right, Ava won't get a call today.'

'I just want to give her hope, make her believe Alexander will call.'

'Only despair will make her give up on him.'

Then another thought hit him.

'But what if Alexander did hear? What if he calls today?'

'What if they make up?'

'The baby would bind them together.'

William gently let go of Ava. "Ava, do you want to rest a bit more?"

Ava shook her head. "No, what if I miss the call?"

William said, "You look exhausted. Why not freshen up? I'll watch your phone. If he calls, I'll let you know. Or set your phone to ring loudly."

Ava nodded. "Alright."

She set her phone to the loudest ring and placed it on the nightstand. "I'll be right back."

"I'll help you." William offered.

"No need, I can manage."

Ava carefully walked into the bathroom.

William rubbed his nose, then pulled out his phone and sent a text.

William: [Come to the ward door.]

A few moments later, Ava's doctor arrived.

William walked over and whispered something to him.

When Ava came out, William helped her back to bed.

She immediately checked her phone.

She sighed softly and replied to Vicky and Eason, explaining she had fallen asleep early and missed their messages.

Every time her phone buzzed, she grabbed it, only to find replies from Vicky and Eason.

Disappointment washed over her, but she kept replying politely.

Still no call or message from Alexander.

Soon, the doctor came to check on her.

"Ms. Anderson, how are you feeling today?" he asked.

Ava put down her phone. "I'm fine."

The doctor approached. "You don't look well."

Ava touched her face. "Really? Maybe I didn't sleep well."

The doctor said, "Let me check."

He placed a stethoscope on her heart and suddenly frowned.
