Chapter 639 Time for a Change
"So, all this hatred is because of my mom? You think my mom killed Mrs. Harrington, so you take your anger out on me!"
"We hate you because you're a reflection of your mother," Harper retorted. "Isabella, you've been greedy since you were a child. You want everything, whether it's yours or not. When things don't go your way, you resort to despicable means. Remember when Dad bought me that expensive and beautiful dress and you secretly ruined it? You're selfish and unreasonable, you treat the servants like slaves, you do whatever you want just because you're a Harrington. But then you play the innocent card. Dad might let it slide because you're a Harrington, but we've seen everything you've done."
"Over the years, we've clocked all your moves and we know exactly what kind of person you are. But you've gone above and beyond. Aunt Leah took care of me since I was a little girl, but you pushed her down the stairs just because she said I was the only heir to the Harrington fortune."
"It wasn't me! She fell on her own; it has nothing to do with me!" Isabella hurriedly denied.
"One million dollars," Harper said. "We gave her family one million dollars to settle the matter. So, Isabella, don't behave as if we owe you, and don't pretend to be innocent. You know whether you did those things or not. We have done all we can for you."
Isabella's face turned pale with anger.
"Do you think that just because you are marrying Alexander, we will change our attitude towards you, bow and scrape, and greet you with a smile?"
Harper gave a slight smile, a hint of sarcasm flashing in her eyes. She said coldly, "Yes, Mrs. Mitchell is quite something. I don't know what moves you pulled, but let me be clear: the future of the Harrington family does not depend on you. If you think the Harrington family will go to Alexander, using your name to seek cooperation, you're wrong. We rely on our own strength, not on nepotism. Even if Dad did, I wouldn't agree. I am the heir of the Harrington family, and I make all the decisions now. If Alexander cooperates with us because of you, that's a bonus. But if there's no SK Group, it's no big deal. We got along fine without that hookup before."
Isabella clutched her clothes tightly, her eyes wide open. "Aren't you scared I'll tell Alex about my experiences in the Harrington family?"
"What kind of experiences? Were you abused or starved?" Harper retorted. "Of course, you can exaggerate. I'm also curious, what will Alexander do for you? Will he bankrupt the Harrington family just to make you smile, like in a TV show? Isabella, daydreams are nice, but real life's a tough cookie."
Isabella locked eyes with Harper, a mix of intense emotions swirling within. Soon, the fiery anger gave way to a calmness.
Isabella tugged at the corners of her mouth. "Harper, you're right. Life can be brutal. I'll keep your words in mind. But anyway, marrying Alex is a happy thing for me. I chose to marry him for love. As for the rest, I haven't thought about it and don't dare to. I came home because I'm marrying him tomorrow, and I want my family to be there. Otherwise, I'd be all alone, and that's just sad, you know?"
"We'll be there," Harper said. "Our whole family will go. We'll give you the respect you deserve, but remember, don't get too greedy. Sometimes knowing when to stop is the smart move."
With that, Harper stood up. "You notified us too suddenly, and the time is tight, but I'll do my best to arrange your wedding. Just concentrate on being a bride."
Harper turned and left the room.
With a loud crash, Isabella snatched the bedside lamp and hurled it at the wall, her eyes blazing with pure rage. "Just wait and see!"
'The heir to the Harrington family should be changed!'
