Chapter 481 As Cold as Charity
Mia coldly remarked, "After seeing the true face of that woman, you suddenly realized you love me? Then why didn't you love me all those years before?"
"Mia, I am slow. I am a fool. I know I was wrong, and I have tried my best to make it up. You are my only wife," George said humbly and sincerely.
"I am still your wife now," Mia said, "and we have always maintained a relationship. What else do you want?"
"I..." George didn't know what to say. He was afraid that if he said too much, Mia would find it annoying. Although they were still husband and wife and they often spent the night together, George felt more like a tool for satisfying her sexual needs. They would be together when she needed him, and she would ignore him when she didn't, as if they were strangers.
There were no couples in the world like this.
George didn't want to discuss this anymore. He was worried that if he said too much, Mia wouldn't even want to give him this little bit.
"By the way, Mia, someone called you just now, saying it was official business."
"You answered my phone?" Mia said coldly.
George said, "You were in the shower at the time, and I was worried that you might miss an important call, so I answered it for you. I'm sorry."
Mia took the phone and checked the recent call, only to find that it was from Dalton.
Following his inexplicable words to her earlier, she found herself unable to reach his phone.
Ava marrying William must have been his doing. He and his son were no angels.
"George, you can leave now."
George sighed, got up from the bed, and said, "Okay, I'll leave. We'll make plans for another time."
They didn't seem like a couple at all, not even like boyfriend and girlfriend.
After George left, Mia closed the door, sat on the bed, and then called Dalton back.
Soon, Dalton answered, "Hello."
"Dalton, why did you call me? What are you up to?" She didn't want to answer him, but she was worried that he might be plotting something behind her back, making her unable to guard against it.
"I'm not up to anything. I want to tell you something."
"What do you want to tell me?"
"My son, William, was attacked and is now in a coma. The doctors are trying to save him, and the situation is very dangerous."
Mia was stunned. She said, "Really? Why are you telling me this?"
She couldn't feel anything for William. It was not Alexander in trouble.
"I'm telling you because William is..." Dalton paused, stopped for a long time, and then spoke again, "He is Ava's husband. You treat Ava as your daughter, right? So, William is your son-in-law."
Upon hearing this, Mia laughed. "Are you kidding me? What kind of logic is this? I treat Ava as my daughter, but she is not my biological daughter. She is my son's ex-wife. She married another man. How could her husband be my son-in-law? Don't be ridiculous."
In her opinion, Dalton was just harassing her in various ways.
"Is that so? It appears I have misunderstood," Dalton sighed helplessly. "I had hoped that, given the circumstances, you might show a bit of concern for William."
Mia said expressionlessly, "You are ridiculous. Why should I care about your son? You and your wife should be the ones who care about him. I don't care about any outsiders, let alone your son. Given your character, how could you possibly raise a good person?"
"Mia, must you be so indifferent?" Dalton exclaimed angrily, "You haven't interacted with William. How can you judge his character?"
"I may not have interacted with him, but I am aware of what kind of person his father is, a cold, ruthless individual driven solely by profit, willing to abandon anything for money. Can a man raised by such a person truly be a good individual?"
Dalton took a deep breath, restraining his anger. "Mia, I hope that one day you won't regret the words you've spoken."
Mia smiled, "Don't worry. I won't regret it. After all, I can't even take care of my son."
Mia heard the increasingly heavy breathing on the phone.
She felt that Dalton was very angry.
"Goodbye." Dalton hung up the phone.
Mia sighed.
She heard about William's accident from Alexander. However, she didn't understand why Dalton had to tell her such things.
She didn't know how Ava was doing. After divorcing Alexander, she inexplicably married William. Now, with William had an accident, neither of her two husbands granted her peace of mind.
After hanging up the phone, Dalton lowered his head, closed his eyes in pain, and muttered to himself, "Mia, William is your own son."
