Chapter 231 Pupil Quake

Alexander silently packed up a notebook that had been on the bed and tucked it back into his chest pocket. "You can relax now, right? Get some good rest, wait for the right heart, and you're going to be fine," he reassured her.

"Alex, do you know?" Isabella's gentle, water-like eyes carried a tinge of sorrow. "I had almost given up hope, I was prepared for the worst. But now... now that you're finally divorced, hope has sparked in me again. I know you'll marry me, you're a man of your word, and I'll hold on no matter what. I am determined to live and be your wife."

While Isabella's face was a picture of excitement, Alexander appeared remarkably composed, showing little emotion. He simply hummed in response, "Don't get too worked up, try to stay calm, or it's not good for your heart."

Isabella couldn't help feeling slightly irked by Alexander’s calm demeanor. After all, now that he was divorced, he was free to marry her, and that should be cause for celebration. Why then did he seem so indifferent? Could it be that he didn't want the divorce from Ava Anderson?

As she mulled it over, unease crept into Isabella's thoughts. She desperately wanted to believe Alex cared about her, yet she couldn't ignore the distant and slightly lost look on his face.

After a moment of contemplation, Isabella spoke with apparent generosity, "Alex, I get it. You two were together for so long, it must feel strange now. She was like a sister to you, and now with the divorce, I'm sure there's an emptiness inside."

She took his hand and gently stroked the back of it, adding, "But trust me, this is all temporary, you'll get over it soon. Even people you don’t like much can leave a void when they suddenly leave your life."

With a tender smile, Isabella reassured him, "I’ll give you the time you need to adjust, no rush."

They were divorced now, after all.

Marrying Alexander was only a matter of time for her.

So, a little magnanimity couldn't hurt.

"By the way, Alex, what are you planning to do after the divorce? Are you moving out, or is she?" Isabella asked, before venturing further, "And what about…"

"I'm moving out," Alexander said, "I've already given her the house we lived in, and, in addition, five percent of the shares in SK Group."

Isabella's head practically exploded upon hearing "five percent of the shares in SK Group." It felt like a tsunami in her chest, waves of shock and disbelief crashing within.

To think of it as an earthquake in her very soul wasn't an exaggeration.

Giving Ava the house didn’t really matter to Isabella; she had no desire for a place Ava had lived in. But five percent of SK Group's shares? Had Alex lost his mind, bestowing such a significant stake on that woman?

With that, Ava had become a wealthy woman overnight. She wouldn't have to lift a finger for the rest of her life; people would cater to her every whim as she reaped the benefits of her fortune, free to travel the world as she pleased!

The incessant beeping sound snapped Isabella back to reality.

The medical alarm suddenly went off, sending Isabella’s heart into a frenzied race, leaving her gasping for air!

"Isabella." Alexander rose immediately, turning his head to shout, "Doctor!"

The medical staff hurried in, and after some urgent care, Isabella’s strength began to return.

As the alarm ceased, her heart rate normalized.

The doctor injected a sedative into Isabella Harrington's IV, and she slipped into a deep sleep. Alexander chose not to disturb her, standing outside her door instead.

The doctor explained to him that Isabella Harrington's rapid heartbeat was caused by emotional agitation.

Her heart was weak, and the slightest excitement could set it off.

Alexander realized that Isabella's agitation must be due to him telling her that he had given Ava a five percent share of SK Corporation.

Could it be that he had given Ava too much for Isabella to accept?

Her physical reaction was telling; Isabella cared about this issue.

But was five percent of the shares too much? He didn’t think so.
