Chapter 967 Wanting Him Dead
Ava thought for a second, then finally looked up at Alexander.
"But back then, you did want William dead. You asked me to agree to give William's heart to Isabella," Ava said.
William smiled, feeling relieved.
Looked like Ava was buying William's story, he thought, ''Alexander, you think you can mess with me? First there's Isabella, then Madison. All the crap you've pulled, I can bring up any of it, and you won't have a leg to stand on. Meanwhile, in Ava's eyes, I'm perfect. What do you have on me?'
Ava's words hit Alexander hard.
"Ava, that was ages ago. It's ancient history. That and this are two different things," Alexander said, sounding defeated.
"But you did do it back then," Ava insisted. "You did want William dead. You can't deny that."
"I..." Alexander couldn't deny it. Back then, he hated William, and with Isabella needing a heart transplant, he thought it was a good chance to give William's heart to her.
That way, Isabella could live, and William would die. He admitted he had that selfish thought.
"Ava, I've told you, they are two different things. Even if I thought that way back then, it was because Isabella was dying. I didn't kill him. I didn't harm him. I just said those things out of basic common sense."
"Common sense?" Ava couldn't stand hearing those words. "Alexander, to you, asking me to give up on William's treatment is common sense? If that's what you think, then don't argue about this anymore. Maybe you're just feeling guilty. When you saw William coming to you, you thought of the past and assumed William wanted to kill you!"
Alexander took a few steps back, like all the strength had been drained from him.
He was used to Ava's hurtful words and misunderstandings, but it still hurt every time.
That kind of despair made him not want to cry, not want to laugh, not want to scream.
Instead, he felt like an empty shell, with all his blood and warmth drained, cold and empty.
Finally, Alexander bitterly lifted the corners of his mouth, saying, "Ava, why do you never believe me?"
Heartbroken, Alexander turned and left.
Ava stared blankly at his back, suddenly feeling a pang of guilt.
Could it be that she had really misunderstood him?
But if she had misunderstood Alexander, it would mean William was lying.
Ava couldn't fully trust Alexander.
Thinking of his past deceptions and the hurt he caused her, she couldn't let it go.
He lied about going on a business trip, but he was with Isabella.
He handed her the divorce papers, also for Isabella.
He wanted her to give up on William, also for Isabella.
How could she trust such an Alexander? If she trusted him, if she forgave him, what about Madison?
He now had Madison. Would she have to make way for Madison in the future too?
Alexander and Madison already had a child together.
What was left between her and Alexander?
Only laughable memories, and even those memories were being eroded by reality bit by bit.
