Chapter 510 Attempting to Recover

William lay on the hospital bed, tightly closing his eyes, cold sweat trickling down his forehead.

He was trying to remember things from the past.

Some memories were like fragments. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't piece them back together into a whole.

Trying to piece them together only gave him a headache.

Many times, he tried to stop himself, following Ava's advice that it's best not to dwell on something when you can't remember it. However, unrest persisted within him. A persistent inkling that he had forgotten something crucial gnawed at him. Recollection was imperative, for this matter was of vital consequence to his very existence.

He had forgotten an important figure, a dangerous one.

No, he must remember. For Ava, he had to remember!

After Ava returned to the hospital room and saw William tightly closing his eyes, sweating on his forehead, she quickly approached and gently wiped the sweat off his forehead with a tissue. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"Darling, you're back." William opened his eyes. "I'm fine."

Seeing William pretending to be strong, Ava sensed that something had been off. "Are you trying to recover your memories?"

William nodded, not wanting to lie to her. "Yes, but I'm useless. I can't remember anything."

"Don't be so hard on yourself. Your surgery was not long ago, and now, your recovery is paramount. You shouldn't strain your brain too much. Once you recover, your memories will slowly come back. Otherwise, the more you try to remember now, the more anxious you'll become, and the harder it will be to remember."

Ava's words made sense. Every time William tried hard to remember, the more he felt his mind going blank and hurting.

He sighed. "Ava, if I could never remember anything for the rest of my life, would it really be okay with you?"

"It really would be okay." Ava raised her hand and gently patted his chest through the blanket, "Don't worry. Your recovery is more important than anything else. Your memories can be recreated, but life is only once."

William sighed. "Okay, we will recreate the memories."

He believed that the memories they recreated would far surpass the past.

"Oh, William, I have something to do tonight. So, I couldn't have dinner with you."

"What's going on?"

"I need to visit my grandmother. It's been a while since I last saw her."

"Your grandmother?"

"Yes. After my parents passed away, she adopted me and raised me, just like my own grandmother."

"Since she's your grandmother, she's mine, too. Should I call her?"

"Don't bother." How could he call her grandmother? If her grandmother found out she had married William, she might faint from anger.

"But we are a couple."

"William, the situation is rather intricate. Once you have fully recovered, I will have a thorough conversation with you about the past. For now, be a lamb and focus on recuperating."

William nodded. "Okay."

Ava had her reasons for saying so. She wouldn't intentionally harm him.

He really wished he could recover now and find out what had happened in the past.

Soon, evening arrived.

Ava had hoped to run into Alexander at the hospital like before, but she didn't.

Upon careful consideration, she understood that he was undoubtedly busy and would not always remain at the hospital to accompany Isabella.

After much contemplation, she could only resort to calling him.

She wasn't sure if Alexander had blocked her number, but she had blocked his anyway.
