Chapter 631 Arrogance

Ava tugged at the corner of her mouth, saying, "It's fine, no big deal."

"That's good. I tend to speak my mind, but I mean no harm. I'm just glad you don't hold it against me."

Mia was deeply engrossed in her lunch, while Ava and William seemed unusually quiet, as if Mia had made the atmosphere uncomfortable.

While eating,  Ava was suddenly overcome by the call of nature, a common issue for pregnant women.

"I'm going to the restroom. You guys go ahead and eat," Ava said as she got up and left the dining room.

William, aspiring to be a gracious host, politely said, "Mrs. Michelle, I know you care about Ava. Rest assured, I will treat her well."

"But you've lost your memory now. You don't remember anything from before. How can you treat her well?" Mia asked bluntly.

The smile on William's face froze. He didn't seem upset, yet his eyes darkened a bit. "I am her husband. Even if I've lost my memory, I won't forget to treat her well. Ava and I will create new memories."

"New memories?" Mia smiled faintly. "Like yesterday at the restaurant, when you falsely accused my son to make Ava feel sorry for you. Truly an unforgettable memory."

William's expression immediately turned cold. Since Mia was being so blunt, he didn't feel the need to pretend either.

Setting down his fork, he inquired, "Mrs. Michelle, so this time, you're here to hold me accountable?"

Even though he was unhappy, he continued to call her "Mrs. Michelle" for Ava's sake.

"I'm not here to rebuke you. I'm just here to say, you're really something. As Dalton's son, you're really impressive. Alexander? Well, let's just say he's no match for your cunning ways. He's all about making quick decisions, but you, you've got that strategic mind. Maybe I'll have a word with Alex and tell him to pick up some of your tricks."

William chuckled lightly. "Mrs. Michelle, since you put it that way, I'll be honest with you. Alexander indeed has a lot to learn, like how to treat his wife well, and also..."

"It is none of your business. Do you really think your marriage to Ava is real? Even if you've lost your memory, I can see from your eyes that you know something. Sure, you can play on Ava's guilt, but you ain't pulling a fast one on me."

William squinted slightly. "I don't understand what you're saying."

"No, you understand," Mia said coldly. "You understand better than anyone else. That move at the restaurant yesterday was smart. You owned up to your slip-up with Ava before she even knew about it, proving you're on top of fixing your errors and keeping her thinking the same of you. Killing two birds with one stone, right there."

William laughed softly. "You know all this. I'm starting to think, has Alexander really grown up? Why did he run to his mom for everything and get you to fight his battles? When I look at it that way, I guess I've got the upper hand. I didn't go sobbing to my mom."

"Feeling pretty good about yourself?" Mia lifted her lips slightly, staring straight at him. "Remember how you and your dad duped Ava into marrying you by taking advantage of her kindness?"

"Duped?" William snorted. "How can you be so sure it was all a trap? Are you saying that Ava is such a foolish woman who can be easily deceived? You're selling her short. I see you're quite self-righteous. Now I understand where Alexander gets his self-righteousness from; he must have inherited it from you."
