Chapter 821 Unease
Suddenly, a loud thunderclap echoed in the sky. Alexander jolted awake, turning his head as the wind gusted through the window, swirling the curtains and letting raindrops in. The storm and wind wiped away his drowsiness.
He got out of bed, closed the window, and saw the heavy rain outside. His heart suddenly ached, an unexpected pain. He clutched his chest, feeling uneasy but unsure why.
Then, his phone rang. He picked it up and answered, his expression turning serious after hearing the caller. He quickly changed clothes and left the house in the rain, driving to the hospital.
The doctor had just finished treating Madison and moved her to a ward. Alexander asked, "Why did you call me?"
The doctor replied, "Mr. Mitchell, you left your number last time you brought Ms. Allen in. We couldn't reach anyone else."
Alexander sighed. He hadn't seen Madison since his last hospital visit. He didn't expect to be back here again. Madison had told him she wasn't in touch with her family, so he came when the hospital called.
"Doctor, how is she now?" Alexander asked.
"Ms. Allen needs a heart transplant. She's on the transplant list," the doctor said.
"A heart transplant?" Alexander frowned. He'd been through this before with Isabella, and finding a match was tough.
"Yes, but her condition is manageable for a few years," the doctor added.
"So, she has a few years to wait for a heart?" Alexander asked.
"Yes, but she needs care and regular check-ups," the doctor replied.
"I see," Alexander said.
The doctor gave him some instructions and left. Alexander felt a headache coming on. He arranged a VIP ward for Madison, then sat on the sofa, looking at the rain outside. His heart was troubled, and it wasn't just about Madison. He'd felt uneasy since the call, like something was wrong.
He took out his wallet and looked at a photo of Ava, gently stroking it. Madison slowly opened her eyes and saw Alexander, thinking it was a dream.
"Am I dead?" she asked.
Alexander walked over and said, "You're in the hospital. You're still alive."
"I'm still alive?" Madison couldn't believe it. She noticed the photo of Ava in Alexander's wallet before he put it away.
"I left my number here before, so the doctor called me. The doctor said..." Alexander hesitated.
Madison asked anxiously, "What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor said you need a heart transplant and are on the list, waiting for a heart," Alexander explained.
"How could this be?" Madison was shocked. "My heart doesn't need to be replaced."
She thought she had been fine, just needing medication. Could it be because she stopped taking the medicine? But the doctor had said she could stop.
Seeing Madison's panic, Alexander understood. Anyone would struggle to accept such news.
