Chapter 115 Arranged Marriage

Scarlett responded, her voice laced with a hint of bitterness, “George was obstinate, to the point of recklessness. He abandoned everything, pursuing his past love. He had one final, explosive argument with Mia before he departed. At that time, Alex was merely a child of ten.”

Yun's brows furrowed in disapproval, a frown etching itself onto his face. “That's beyond comprehension. How could he act so irresponsibly?”

“Indeed, it's as if he was under some sort of spell. What was so extraordinary about this past lover?” Scarlett mused aloud, her tone laced with a hint of incredulity.

Upon hearing this, Ava found herself contemplating the same question. What was it about Isabella that was so captivating?

“And then what happened?” Ava probed, her curiosity piqued.

A sudden burst of laughter erupted from Scarlett, “Ah, the tale takes a ludicrous turn. That woman, she was under the impression that I wouldn't let my son leave empty-handed. However, when she realized the severity of George's situation, that he was truly penniless, and she would not be assuming the role of Mrs. George, she hastily retreated.”

The elderly woman could hardly contain her laughter as she continued, "I've encountered countless women like her, all vying for a position of prestige."

Ava couldn't suppress a chuckle, "So, my father-in-law was completely taken aback?"

"Absolutely," Scarlett confirmed. "Eventually, your father-in-law recognized her true nature. He returned, seeking my forgiveness. I told him, 'Your apologies are wasted on me. Make amends with your wife.' However, Mia was resolute - she demanded a divorce, a proposition George adamantly refused."

"It became a never-ending cycle, and the divorce never materialized. Mia, disillusioned and disappointed, refuses to cohabitate with him. She's devoted herself to her career, sparing him little thought. They remain at an impasse."

Ava nodded, the pieces of the puzzle falling into place.

"So, it's not unjustified for my mother-in-law to treat my father-in-law in such a manner. He brought it upon himself."

She didn't attempt to justify George's actions. After all, he was to blame.

"Right. As much as George is my own son, I cannot blindly defend his actions. I've gently suggested to Mia that they reconcile. However, ultimately, their lives are their own, and I cannot impose my will. Whether Mia can find it in her heart to forgive my son, only time will tell."

Ava admired the elderly woman's candidness - a quality so rarely encountered.

"The decision rests with them," Ava agreed. "It appears that my mother-in-law is deeply committed to her career. She must be leading a fulfilling life."

Scarlett nodded in agreement, "Yes, she's accomplished. She ascended to the position of bank president through her own merit, never relying on the support of the Mitchell family.

Life had dealt her a harsh hand – her mother passed away prematurely, and her father hastily remarried a stepmother who treated her poorly.

When Mia married into the Mitchell family, her father and stepmother had the audacity to reappear, hoping to mend fences. I told Mia the decision was hers to make. She was clear about her loyalties - if someone had wronged her, blood relation or not, she wouldn't entertain them."

A thought occurred to Scarlett, "Actually, Mia possesses qualities that remind me of you. When I was helping George choose a wife, it was her character that captivated me."

"Grandma, are you saying you had a hand in arranging my father-in-law's marriage?"

The situation bore a striking resemblance to her own circumstances with Alexander.

"Ava, do you perceive me as overly domineering, still arranging marriages in this manner?"

"Grandma, that's not what I meant."
