Chapter 25 Getting Tired Easily Because of Pregnancy
Alexander brought Ava home, holding her hand all the way to their room. "Rest at home if you're not feeling well. Stop running around," he said.
Ava nodded.
Just then, Alexander's phone rang. He answered, "Hello, Isabella."
His tone was exceptionally gentle, like he was ready to give Isabella the world.
Alexander glanced at Ava, then stepped out of the room to continue his call.
Ava got up, took off her graduation gown, and changed into comfortable clothes.
Alexander was in the hallway, still talking to Isabella. "She's not feeling well. Let's skip today. I'll see how she is tomorrow and let you know."
After a few more exchanges, Alexander hung up. He returned to the room to find Ava lying on the bed, asleep. He sat down by the bed and gently called her name, "Ava?"
Ava was deeply asleep, looking very tired. Alexander lightly held her hand and stayed by her side.
When Ava woke up, she was surprised to see Alexander still there. She had no idea how long she had slept. Being pregnant made her tire easily.
"You're awake," he said.
Ava checked her phone and found she had slept for almost two hours.
"Get up and have lunch."
"Why are you still home?" Ava asked.
Alexander frowned. "Why can't I be home? This is my house, isn't it?"
"That's not what I meant. Aren't you usually very busy?"
"Not today. I wanted to take a break."
"So, you mean..."
Before she could finish, he said, "I'll be home all day today."
"Oh." Ava didn't say much more. It was his house; he could stay if he wanted.
Even though it was a normal thing, Ava felt a slight, inexplicable joy.
At lunch, Ava had little appetite and mostly ate vegetables. Alexander put some beef on her plate. "Why are you only eating vegetables? Have some beef."
The sight of beef made Ava nauseous, but she forced herself to eat it to avoid suspicion. Luckily, she had taken some anti-nausea medication for pregnant women earlier, so she managed to keep it down.
"What kind of job do you want?" Alexander suddenly asked.
"What?" Ava looked up at him.
"Didn't we talk about finding you a job after graduation? What do you want to do?"
"I'll find a job myself. I don't need your help."
"You'll find one yourself? You're not going to SK Group?"
"No," Ava said with a bitter smile, "We're getting divorced. How can I work at SK Group as your ex-wife? I'll handle my job search."
"It's just a job. Do you really need to avoid me that much? Or do you not want to work in finance? Didn't you say you had no regrets?"
He could always sense her trying to avoid him. If she was like this before the divorce, wouldn't they become strangers afterward?
"I want to go to grad school," she said, using it as an excuse.
"Grad school?"
"Yes, it's better to have a master's degree in finance."
"Fine, go ahead," he said. Since she wanted to pursue further studies, he had no reason to stop her. "Which school do you want to attend?"
"I'll think about it," she replied, not wanting to discuss it further, as the grad school idea was just a temporary excuse.
Alexander didn't press the issue. After lunch, they returned to the room. Alexander took a gift box from the cabinet and handed it to her.
"What's this?" Ava asked.
"A birthday present."
However, her birthday was several days ago.
