Chapter 112 You Better Hurry Back
Upon hearing Isabella's words, Ava found herself on the brink of laughter. The absurdity of the situation was almost comical. It was evident that Alexander had not divulged his plan to pilfer the necessary divorce documents to Isabella.
Ava found it peculiar that Alexander would withhold such crucial information from Isabella, especially considering the matter pertained to both of them.
"Right, he seems to hold you in high regard," Ava remarked, her voice laced with irony. "However, I find it intriguing that he failed to inform you about today's events."
Isabella retorted defensively, "I am well aware of today's events. He has kept me in the loop."
"Is that so?" Ava queried, her curiosity now fully piqued. "And pray tell, what exactly did he share with you?"
She was eager to witness how Isabella would navigate this predicament. If Isabella was truly privy to the details, would she be able to maintain her composure? Would she continue to hinder Alexander's departure?
Isabella responded, "Alex mentioned that you two were planning to visit his grandmother for lunch again this afternoon. You just did that a few days ago, didn't you? If he's running a bit late, it's hardly a catastrophe."
Ava countered, "I see, so he only briefed you about the lunch with his grandmother and conveniently omitted the rest?"
"What else could there possibly be? You're not attempting to stir up trouble, are you? Because, as you should know, Alex has no tolerance for women who play games."
Isabella's tone was accusatory, as if she was exposing a thief. Ava could barely suppress her urge to roll her eyes. She had no desire to prolong this conversation.
"Very well," Ava conceded. "When Alex returns, inform him that if he is too late, I will proceed to have lunch with his grandmother. If we finish and he still hasn't arrived with the divorce documents, then it's unfortunate. There will be no divorce today. Goodbye."
Ava was on the verge of ending the call when Isabella interjected, "Wait! What are you talking about? You're going to get the documents for divorce? Why don't I know about this?"
Ava responded coolly, "Why you were left in the dark is beyond me. Isn't this something your beloved Alex should be briefing you on? It pertains to your future together, after all. I assumed he would have informed you, considering his apparent affection for you."
Ava's voice was dripping with sarcasm, a tone that Isabella found particularly irksome.
Isabella's face darkened with rage.
"Ava, are you pulling some trick? Setting a trap? If I confront Alex about this, is he going to be mad at me?"
"I wouldn't know," Ava retorted dismissively. "You're on your own. Goodbye." With that, Ava terminated the call, weary of the incessant bickering.
Isabella was left in a state of disarray, her mind a whirlwind of confusion. With Alex not having his phone, she was unable to reach him and was left with no choice but to anxiously await his return.
Eventually, Alex returned, bearing lunch in his hands.
"Isabella, I've brought lunch. Let's eat," he proposed.
"Alex, Ava called earlier. I answered, thinking it might be urgent. She mentioned something, but I thought she was jesting," Isabella admitted hesitantly.
Alexander offered a wry smile, as if he had anticipated this. "What did she say?"
"She claimed that you were visiting your grandmother today to get the documents to finalize a divorce."
As Alexander began to set the table, his movements momentarily faltered.
He furrowed his brow slightly before responding calmly, "Yes, that's correct."
Isabella's heart pounded in her chest. "Alex, why didn't you inform me sooner?"
"Sometimes, it's more prudent to wait until things are finalized before sharing. It prevents disappointment if plans go awry. Remember the botched attempt with the divorce papers?" he replied, his tone indifferent.
"So, you're saying it's not guaranteed that you'll secure the documents today?" Isabella queried, her voice trembling with anxiety.
"I can't say for certain," Alexander responded nonchalantly. "Nothing is definite until it happens."
"Then you must hurry back," she urged. "If you're not there, she won't be able to manage alone."
