Chapter 798 Relentless Entanglement
Alexander stopped and turned his head.
Seeing Mia's worried look, he asked, "What's up? Are you hiding something?"
Mia asked, "Alexander, are you really over Ava?"
Alexander closed his eyes in pain and clenched his fists. "Ava wanted to end it. What could I do?"
Mia pressed on, "So, you still want to be with her?"
Alexander gave a bitter smile. "Do you know why I didn't let you contact Ava when I was hurt? Do you know what happened when I went to save her?"
"What happened?" Mia asked.
Alexander sighed. "Forget it."
He didn't want them to know; he'd bear it alone.
Alexander thought, 'She chose William, that's all. How could she be at fault? Ava just doesn't love me anymore.'
Seeing Alexander about to leave, Mia rushed to stop him. "Wait. What's going on? You have to tell me."
Mia was really worried about Alexander.
"I don't want to tell you." He felt he had nothing to say to his parents anymore.
He didn't expect them to take his side. He had made mistakes and had no right to ask for their support.
Mia pleaded, "Alexander, please, talk to me."
She knew Alexander had been down for a while and wondered if he was actually depressed.
In such a situation, he needed his family's support the most.
Alexander said helplessly, "Talking to you won't help."
Mia replied, "Even if it doesn't help, you can't keep it all inside. You need to share with someone."
"Share with you? You'd probably just mock me." Alexander laughed bitterly.
Clearly, Mia thought he deserved it.
Mia said, "I wouldn't mock you. I'm your mom; how could I mock you? Please, tell me."
Alexander suddenly laughed, and two tears slid down his cheeks.
"She chose William," he said.
He told Mia what had happened.
Mia was shocked. "How could this happen?"
Seeing Mia's disbelief, Alexander quietly wiped away his tears.
He had grown up, yet he was still crying. It was so embarrassing.
Only that woman could make him cry.
"Can't believe it? If it hadn't really happened, I wouldn't believe it either. Now you know why I didn't want to contact her. She loves William. She hates me. Why would I still want to contact her?"
He continued, "She didn't want to see me. When you told me she was coming to see me that day, I had one last hope. But I waited all day, and she never came."
He was utterly desperate.
Mia suddenly thought of something and looked up. "Alexander, you misunderstood. Actually, that day..."
She stopped. She wanted to tell Alexander that Ava did come that day, but she arrived late.
But when Ava got there, Alexander was already gone.
Alexander didn't hear a word Ava said, leading to a big misunderstanding, making them think they'd never contact each other again.
"I misunderstood?" Alexander's brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"
Mia suddenly didn't know how to tell him.
If she told him, Alexander might start chasing Ava again.
But according to Alexander, in that critical moment, Ava chose William over him, proving that William meant more to her.
Mia thought, 'What's the point of telling Alexander now? He's finally willing to give up on Ava. Why give him a reason to chase her again?'
Then her two sons would be fighting over one woman endlessly, and they'd all be in pain.
Mia sighed softly and said, "I mean, could it be that you misunderstood her choice at that time? After all, it sounds like Ava was also in a lot of pain. It would have been hard for anyone to choose."
When Alexander heard Mia say "misunderstood," he held onto a glimmer of hope, but when he heard what she said, that hope was shattered.
