Chapter 136 A Visit to the Resort
A couple of hours had passed.
Seated at a quaint café table, Ava was a picture of anxious anticipation.
A man sauntered into the café, his attire a simple, casual ensemble of white, a stark departure from his usual sharply tailored suits. His presence was noticeably softer, gentler.
Spotting Ava, who was engrossed in the view outside the window as if in search of something, he leaned in and murmured, "Ava."
At the sound of her name, Ava swiveled her head towards the voice, her eyes meeting William's. "Mr. Bennett, how did it go?" she asked hurriedly.
William slid into the seat across from Ava, a small smile playing on his lips. "Didn't I tell you to call me William? Mr. Bennett sounds so formal."
'After all, I have been calling her Ava,' he mused to himself.
Ava chose not to dwell on formalities, her concern overriding her manners. "William, how did it go?" she pressed.
"Well," he began, "I had some friends do some investigating. It seems Alexander is still in town, just holed up in a secluded resort. He's rented the entire place."
"A resort?" Ava echoed, her brows furrowing.
"Yes." William produced a business card from his pocket, the details of the resort, including its address and phone number, printed neatly on it.
"William, are you sure? Alex is at that resort?" Ava asked, her voice wavering slightly.
William nodded, his expression solemn. "I'm sure."
Ava hastily dialed Alexander's number on her cell phone, but was met with his voicemail. Frustration bubbling over, she slammed her phone down on the table.
"I can't believe he's still in town. I thought he'd left the country or moved to another city. No, I have to find him and talk to him about the divorce documents, or it'll be too late."
She snatched the business card from the table, her mind set on leaving.
"Hold on," William said, reaching out to grasp her arm.
"Is there something else?" Ava pulled her hand away, the contact with another man making her uncomfortable.
"Oh, I'm sorry." William quickly withdrew his hand, offering an awkward smile. "I just wanted to tell you, from what I've heard, Alexander has booked the entire resort for himself. It's swarming with his people, and outsiders aren't allowed in. If you try to go now, his guys will stop you immediately."
"I'm not an outsider. I'm his wife," Ava retorted, her voice firm.
William offered a faint smile, "Well, he's turned off his phone, doesn't want to contact you. Clearly, he doesn't want to see you. Going there will only make him less inclined."
Ava recalled the first time she had called him. Alexander had deliberately ignored the call, hanging up, and then turned off his phone the second time she tried. William's logic was sound. He indeed understood the male psyche better than she did.
Ava sighed, her heart heavy with worry. "What should I do then? I don't have much time. I promised grandma to return the family register by five o'clock."
William rose from his seat, "Well, I might have a way to get you in to find him, albeit a bit inconvenient for you."
"It's not an inconvenience," Ava quickly responded, "What's the way? Tell me, and I'll do it."
Meeting Alexander was worth any compromise to her.
...
William arranged for a helicopter to transport Ava to the resort.
Driving there would have wasted too much time, not to mention the potential for traffic. Flying directly there by helicopter saved them half the time.
Once at the resort, under William's guidance, the two disguised themselves as staff members and slipped in unnoticed.
