Chapter 831 Meaningful
"I'm sorry, Mr. Smith, maybe I'm wrong, I just feel..."
Mia was at a loss for words, completely stunned by the situation.
"No need to apologize. I should be the one saying sorry," he sighed. "I thought we had something, but maybe I was wrong. I'm such a fool."
"No, it's not that," Mia quickly replied.
Brandon's eyes lit up for a second but then he looked downcast again. "Not that? So, you mean we..."
Mia realized she might have fallen into his trap.
'Brandon is a sly one,' she thought.
"Mr. Smith, I mean, it's normal for people to have misunderstandings. It's not because you're foolish."
Her gut told her to stay away from him.
"Mr. Smith, I have to go. Goodbye," Mia said, turning to leave.
Brandon called after her, "We'll see each other again, right?"
Mia paused, unsure what to say.
"I have a good relationship with my husband," she finally said.
Brandon shrugged, looking resigned. "But that's not what I've heard."
Mia's heart skipped a beat. "Have you been checking up on me?"
"I didn't mean to," Brandon said. "I'm not that kind of person, but I did ask around. Your relationship with your husband doesn't seem as good as you say. Didn't he betray you before?"
Thinking of the past, Mia felt a dull ache in her heart. "I'm sorry, I have to go."
She fled the room in a panic.
Watching her leave, Brandon's lips curled into a knowing smile.
Mia drove home.
George had brought Scarlett to live with them to make it easier to care for her.
Scarlett was often confused, not knowing where she was, always wanting to go home.
But when asked where home was, she couldn't answer.
Mia composed herself, got out of the car, and walked into the villa.
Before she even entered, she heard a commotion inside.
Scarlett was shouting, "What are you doing? Let me go, don't you pick on me?"
George replied, "Mom, we are not picking on you. You're not well, please don't run around. Just sit down, okay?"
Scarlett retorted, "What's wrong with me? I'm perfectly healthy. I need to find Ava."
"Grandma," Alexander said, "Ava is very busy with schoolwork and doesn't have time to see you."
Scarlett insisted, "How can she not have time? Can't she just take a break? I haven't seen her in so long. Does she not want to see me?"
George and Alexander were trying to calm her down, but Scarlett wouldn't listen, insisting on seeing Ava.
At that moment, Mia walked in. "Mom."
Scarlett looked confused. "Who are you?"
Then she remembered. "Mia, sorry, I didn't recognize you at first. Why are you here?"
"I came to see you," Mia replied.
Scarlett said, "Mia, look at your husband and son. They won't let me see Ava. Is something wrong with her?"
"Mom, don't worry. Nothing's wrong. She's just very busy," Mia reassured her.
"How busy can she be? Can't we even have a meal together?" Scarlett questioned.
"Mom, I'll contact her and have her come back to see you," Mia said.
"You always say that. I don't believe you. I want to see her today," Scarlett insisted, grabbing Mia's arm. "Let me see Ava."
Scarlett was like a child, her eyes filled with panic and grievance.
Mia didn't know what to do. Ava was abroad, and it was impossible for her to come back suddenly.
Then Alexander had an idea. "Grandma, I'll call Ava right now and have her come over. Just wait a moment, okay?"
