Chapter 804 A Bit Annoyed
"Don't cry."
Alexander stepped forward, pulled out a clean handkerchief, and handed it to her.
"That guy's not worth your tears," he said.
Madison took the handkerchief, which had a faint, pleasant scent. She couldn't bring herself to use it, so she just held it tightly.
"I'm not crying over him," Madison said. "I'm just so happy you came to rescue me. I was panicking after I called you. Sorry for bothering you."
"You don't need to apologize," Alexander replied. "I should be the one saying sorry. I misunderstood you. I thought you didn't call the police on purpose. Please don't be mad."
His gentle voice still stung Madison. So, that was his first thought—she did it on purpose.
'Why is he so cold?' she wondered, trembling and looking upset.
Alexander sighed, "Don't cry. This isn't the end of the world."
Seeing her cry annoyed him a bit. Sensing his displeasure, Madison quickly wiped her tears.
"Okay, I won't cry. I'm sorry," she said.
"Stop apologizing all the time. Isn't it annoying?" Alexander said, a bit impatient.
Madison was startled and looked at him with wide eyes.
Realizing his tone was harsh, Alexander softened. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be harsh. I've been in a bad mood lately."
He finally understood how Ava felt when he kept apologizing to her. She must have been annoyed too.
Madison forced a smile. "It's okay. I can tell. How have you been?"
"Just the usual," Alexander said. "Nothing worth mentioning."
Madison faintly smiled.
Alexander glanced at his phone. "It's getting late. You should rest. I'll go."
"You're leaving just like that?" Madison asked, chasing after him.
Alexander turned. "Is there something else?"
"No, I mean, thank you for helping me. Is there anything I can do for you?"
"Don't bother," Alexander said indifferently. "You saved me before, so I helped you to repay that favor. That's why I came."
Hearing his indifferent words, Madison felt a sharp pain in her heart. Her breathing became rapid.
"So you came to repay a favor, not because you were worried about me?"
Alexander frowned. "Your question is strange, like we're very close."
Madison's heart stung again. They seemed like strangers. Yes, she was overthinking it.
"You're right. I was overthinking it," she said bitterly.
She thought he came because he was worried. She didn't expect he came just to repay a favor.
Seeing her sad expression, Alexander wanted to explain but realized he had nothing to say. They were strangers. She saved him, he gave her his number, and promised to help if needed. Now he had repaid the favor. They were even.
"Ms. Allen, take care. If that guy bothers you again, contact me. I'll send him abroad next time."
With that, Alexander turned to leave. Just as he reached the door, he heard a sound behind him.
