Chapter 634 It's All Up to You
"Mom, I know you're worried about me, but William treats me really well. We've been through a lot together, things you weren't a part of, so you don't understand what's between us..."
"Alright." Mia cut her off, "I know I wasn't involved in your affairs, and I have no right to speak. I'm just giving you a heads-up. You can see for yourself. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, who knows? But every word I say is true. Even if you're not sure about William, you should at least know what kind of person his father is."
Mia gently patted her shoulder. "I'm leaving now."
As Mia opened the car door and was about to get in, Ava called out to her, "Mom, I trust William. No matter what kind of person his father is, he is a good guy."
Mia smiled slightly. "To you, he's just a good man."
"Mom, if it's really like you say, and his father sees me as a bargaining chip to threaten you, please don't feel pressured to do anything for my sake. I'll be fine. William won't let his father hurt me."
Mia turned her head and said, "I understand."
With that, Mia got into the car and left.
Ava watched her car drive away, then turned around and walked towards the villa.
William approached her. "Ava, what were you two talking about? You don't look too good."
He was a bit worried that Mia was trying to sow discord.
Ava shook her head. "Nothing. William, my mother is straightforward and means no harm. She may be a little direct, but don't take it to heart."
William replied gently, "I won't. Actually, the fact that she still visits you even after you divorced her son shows that she considers you a daughter. I respect her for that."
William's words left Ava a bit confused.
She saw the good in William but also received Mia's hints.
She had always firmly believed in William until she found out what he had done in the restaurant. For a fleeting moment, doubt crept in, yet William's honest admission and sincere apology led her to forgive him without changing her view of him.
Even now, she still felt the same, but there was a layer of confusion in her heart.
Once someone had behaved that way, even if they knew it was wrong, did it really mean they wouldn't make the same mistake again?
Noticing Ava's distraction, William said, "I've finished reading those materials. I want to give it a try."
Ava smiled. "Really?"
"Of course. I want to regain my memory as soon as possible. How about we leave tomorrow?" William continued.
It made him very uneasy to stay here. The scrutiny of numerous individuals weighed heavily upon him. He also wanted to regain his memory quickly and take this opportunity to get Ava out of the country. They could focus on their new life without so many interruptions.
"Tomorrow?" Ava said, "Isn't that a bit too soon?"
"Ava, I've been having headaches every night," William said dejectedly.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Ava was a bit worried.
"I didn't want you to worry about me. I really want to regain my memory quickly. This is a good opportunity. How about we leave tomorrow?"
It would only bring more trouble to stay here longer, and he genuinely wanted to regain his memory quickly so he could take control. Right now, he felt very passive, not remembering anything.
Ava looked at William and thought for a moment. She also wanted to resolve this matter quickly. It would be good for him to regain his memory soon.
Upon reflection, his amnesia might have caused his actions at the restaurant yesterday as a form of self-protection. An amnesiac is unfamiliar with the world around him or her and might have psychological issues that cause them to act in strange ways. Perhaps once he regained his memory, he would return to normal.
Most importantly, once he regained his memory, they could get a divorce.
"Then let your family know. We can't just leave without a word. We also need to contact the people in the U.S. I'll handle it. You wait here."
As Ava was heading out, William grabbed her hand. "Wait a minute."
"What's up? Is there something else?"
"Ava, let me take care of these things."
"You sure you got it, but..."
"I got this," William insisted. "Even though I have lost my memory, I haven't forgotten how to solve problems. I also want to try to handle things myself. I can't have you always sorting things out for me. It feels wrong. Whether it's talking to my family or contacting the U.S., let me have a try, okay?"
After a moment of thought, Ava nodded. "Alright, I'll leave it up to you. I believe you can handle it. If you really run into any problems, you can come to me."
William smiled gently. "Okay, I will."
