Chapter 304: Under His Control

"Friendly" was a word always taken with irony, Isabella knew this much. In this world, no one forged friendships this way.

Such motives were driven by powerful interests.

Isabella suddenly laughed, "Of course Alex is important to me, you're absurd to think otherwise. What makes you believe you can get me a heart when even Alex has not managed to? Such a brash claim!"

The man pulled out a cell phone from his pocket and tapped on it a few times.

Suddenly, the hospital alarm blared, a jarring sound.

Isabella grew tense, her complexion pale, "What have you done?"

"Nothing much, just played around with the alarm system. Listen to how anxious everyone is outside."

The man stood up, straightened his coat, "It seems, Miss Harrington, you truly love Alexander Mitchell, without a shred of doubt about his feelings for you. Since that's the case, we cannot be friends. However, I must admire you, Miss Harrington, for putting love above even your own life. That's commendable. Maybe when you reach the other side, even the Grim Reaper might cut you some slack."

The man walked to the door and pulled it open to leave.
Isabella Harrington clutched the sheets, hardly having time to think, and instinctively said, "Wait a minute, I don't even know who you are. How can I know what you're telling me is true? If you want to be my friend, you have to make me believe in your authenticity."

The man turned his head and asked slowly, "If I make you believe, will you accept my proposal?"

Isabella Harrington said nervously, "That depends on how you make me believe."

The man lifted his hand and pulled down the brim of his hat, "I'll come back for you, just remember, don't try to play me. I know everything about you, including the things you did abroad."

At his words, Isabella's mind was struck as if by lightning. How did this man know?

No, it couldn't be. He must be trying to scare her. Knowing she had been abroad wasn't difficult. But how could he know what happened there?

Medical staff burst through the door and quickly said, "Miss Harrington, we have to move you out."

Just as they were about to roll Isabella Harrington's hospital bed away, suddenly, the alarm stopped. A voice came over the speaker, "Due to a system malfunction, the alarm was triggered. The issue has now been resolved and everything is safe. Please remain calm, and medical staff, return to your posts."

Isabella thought about how the man had manipulated his phone earlier. It seemed like he had some kind of control over the hospital.

Who exactly was he? Could he really find her a suitable heart? Where would he find one?

...

Isabella Harrington was frightened.

This was what the doctor told Alexander Mitchell when he called. The hospital's alarm system had malfunctioned and gone off automatically, scaring Isabella.

Her heart was already weak, and when Alexander heard about the scare, he immediately rushed to the hospital.

Isabella Harrington looked wan and tired, "Alex, you're here. I thought I would never see you again."

Alexander Mitchell asked the doctor about the situation, and Isabella had already stabilized.

"It's good that you're okay," he said. "The hospital has assured me that this won't happen again."

"Alex, let's not deceive ourselves, I am unwell, am I not going to make it until a heart is available?"

"I will find one for you."
"How do you plan on finding it?" Isabella Harrington asked, "I know how hard it is to find a heart unless..."
