Chapter 748 Investigate Thoroughly
"Mandy," Vicky said, her voice heavy with sadness, "Is my mom in a lot of pain right now?"
"Yeah, I saw her crying this morning. She really doesn't want to divorce your dad, but your dad..." Mandy paused, squeezing Vicky's hand tightly. "Vicky, I hate to say it, but I think he might be having an affair. That's why he's divorcing your mom."
"What?" Vicky exclaimed, shocked. "Mandy, are you sure?"
Mandy nodded. "I heard rumors years ago. He had a girlfriend but broke up with her to marry my daughter. We didn't dig into it back then. Recently, someone overheard him on the phone, and it sounded like he was talking to his old flame. I suspect they got back together, which is why he's divorcing your mom. They've been married for almost thirty years; why else would he want a divorce now?"
"Mandy, I'm going to ask my dad," Vicky said angrily, trying to get up.
Mandy grabbed her arm. "Be realistic. Do you think if you ask him, he'll tell you the truth?"
Vicky, still angry, asked, "Mandy, what should I do then? If this is true, he's gone too far."
Her parents' divorce had already made Vicky very sad. If it really was Dalton's fault, she would definitely side with Hailey.
Mandy said slowly, "Vicky, you've seen what kind of life your mom has had over the years. Sure, she has no worries about food and clothing, but she doesn't get her husband's care and love. And let's be honest, your mom spoils you, but your dad doesn't. Your mom treats you very well; you have to protect her and not let her be bullied."
Mandy's voice choked up, almost crying.
Vicky replied immediately, "Mandy, I will. But have you told William about this?"
"What's the use of telling William?" Mandy said. "He's lost his memory now. And even if he hadn't, he's a man, and men protect men. Even if your dad really had an affair, he wouldn't be very emotional about it. Who knows, maybe William is also entangled with other women in private."
Vicky hurriedly explained, "Mandy, he's not like that. He's very devoted."
"So what if he's devoted? Men can't control their own bodies," Mandy scoffed. "Even though he's my grandson, there are some things I still want to tell you. Vicky, you're a girl. If you don't feel sorry for your mom, who will?"
"Mandy, I understand. Don't worry, no matter what, I'll stand by my mom." Vicky reassured her.
"Good girl." Mandy patted her head. "Then help your mom find out if your dad is having an affair. If he is, find out who the woman is."
Vicky asked tentatively, "Mandy, if this is really the case, what will you do?"
Vicky knew that Mandy was not someone to be trifled with.
Mandy replied, "I just want to get to the bottom of this. Your parents can't just divorce without a clear reason. Your mom has the right to know the truth about their divorce. Don't you want to find out too?"
Vicky felt Mandy's words made sense. They couldn't let Hailey be wronged; after all, she was her mom.
If Dalton really had an affair, as his daughter, Vicky couldn't tolerate it either.
"I understand, Mandy. I'll find a way to get to the bottom of this," Vicky stated.
Mandy smiled. "That's right. Just don't let your dad find out."
