Chapter 720 Intense Unease

Vicky was driving Ava to the hospital.

Ava kept checking the time, her anxiety growing. "Vicky, can you speed up?"

"Ava, I get it, you want to see him. But there's a speed limit. If I get pulled over, it'll take even longer."

Ava took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.

She was about to see Alexander, and the closer they got, the more nervous she felt.

"It was sunny a minute ago, now it's raining," Ava noted.

Vicky turned on the wipers as raindrops splattered the windshield.

Ava stared out at the rain, feeling a wave of melancholy and unease.

"Ava, what are you going to say when you see him?" Vicky asked.

Ava shook her head. "I don't know. My mind's a mess. I just need to see him. First thing, I'll apologize."

"But what if he doesn't accept it? What if he doesn't want to see you? What then?" Vicky pressed.

"Then I'll talk to him through the door," Ava said firmly.

She thought, 'I have to tell Alexander I'm pregnant. I can't keep it from him any longer. He needs to hear it from me, not someone else. If he hears it from someone else, he'll be desperate. Everyone knows but him. If I tell him myself, at least he'll have someone to be mad at.'

Vicky didn't ask any more questions and kept driving.

The hospital was on the other side of the city, but the GPS said they were about ten minutes away.

Suddenly, a figure darted into the road through the rain.

Vicky slammed on the brakes.

Ava jolted forward but was saved by her seatbelt.

"What happened?" Ava asked, snapping out of her thoughts.

"Ava, stay in the car," Vicky said, grabbing an umbrella from the glove compartment and stepping out.

Ava watched as Vicky talked to the person near the front of the car. It looked like Vicky had almost hit him. He was standing, but he seemed angry and was arguing with Vicky.

Ava was about to get out when Vicky came over and leaned against the window.

"Ava, it's pouring. Stay in the car. I'll handle this," Vicky said.

"Is everything okay? He looks really mad," Ava said, worried.

"It's fine. Just stay put. You promised to listen to me."

Ava nodded reluctantly.

Vicky went back to the man. After a while, he pulled out his phone and made a call, blocking Vicky from leaving.

Soon, the police arrived.

Ava watched, her anxiety growing.

They were so close, but now this.

After an hour, it was finally resolved. It was already 9 PM.

Vicky got back in the car, wiping sweat from her forehead. "What a jerk. He jaywalked, and I was going to give him some money to settle it, but he tried to extort more. No way I was letting him get away with that."

Vicky turned to Ava. "Sorry for the delay."

"It's okay. I'm just glad you're alright. Let's get to the hospital."

Even though they were delayed, they should still make it in time. Alexander was still there.
