Chapter 79 Watching You Make a Fool of Yourself

"Is that so?" Ava's tone was marked by a casual indifference, revealing that she hadn't taken the time to calculate the sum Alexander had actually agreed to give her.

When she was first presented with the divorce settlement, she was informed of a typographical error. The document was promptly whisked away for rectification, leaving her oblivious to any subsequent alterations made to the content.

When she was presented with the paperwork for the second time, she affixed her signature without perusing the specifics. The amount of money Alexander was willing to part with was of no consequence to her.Isabella's ire was stoked by Ava's nonchalance, which she interpreted as unabashed arrogance.

Isabella returned the divorce papers to their place atop the stack, her sneer evident as she said, "Ava, what makes you believe you're entitled to demand millions in alimony from Alex? What gives you the right to claim such a substantial portion of his wealth?"

To the Mitchells, the money was but a mere drop in the ocean, yet Isabella found herself unable to comprehend Alexander's excessive generosity.

Should Ava come into possession of that money, she would be catapulted into a life of opulence overnight, transforming into a billionaire socialite without lifting a finger!

This prospect unsettled Isabella. Why should Ava be allowed to lead such a carefree existence?Ava perused the divorce papers.

Alexander's generosity was indeed remarkable. It seemed he was offering her even more than before. She placed the papers back down, saying, "Miss Harrington, you're mistaken. I didn't request the money. He offered it willingly. If you doubt my words, I suggest you inquire with him directly."

Isabella was further incensed by this revelation. The notion that Alex would willingly part with such a sum for a woman he didn't love... Had he lost his senses?

"You should be mortified for accepting it! What makes you believe you're deserving of all that money? What contributions have you made to the Mitchell family during your year-long association with them? They provided for you and financed your education – you're indebted to them. And yet, here you are, brazenly demanding money! All you've done is marry Alex for a year. Alexander never loved you, and now you have the audacity to claim such a substantial portion of his wealth!"

Ava had remained indifferent to the money, but Isabella's tirade elicited a small, defiant smile from her. "Miss Harrington, he did indeed bestow that amount upon me, and yes, I do have the audacity to accept it. After all, I am his lawful wife."

"Lawful wife? Are you truly oblivious to the reason behind Alex's decision to marry you? He merely desired a trophy, nothing more. You're not worth that money. You're worth no more than a housekeeper's annual salary. That's all you should be receiving, and yet here you are, demanding a fortune!"

Isabella's words struck Ava as utter gibberish, and she didn't feel compelled to offer a rebuttal. Engaging in a debate on this topic with someone like Isabella felt like descending to her level, providing her with an opportunity to outmaneuver Ava with her supposed expertise.

"Why so silent now? Too ashamed to respond?" Isabella sneered, punctuating her words with a disdainful huff. "At least that divorce settlement has been torn up. It's null and void now."

Ava recalled hearing at the hospital about how Alex's father had ripped up the settlement, a revelation that had initially infuriated her. Their efforts had been in vain. But now, it seemed like a fortuitous turn of events. Otherwise, Ava, the supposed gold-digger, would have walked away with millions for doing nothing.

"I'm merely observing you make a spectacle of yourself," Ava responded, her gaze indifferent.

"You..." Isabella's fist clenched, her forced smile dripping with mockery. "Regardless, you won't be receiving the money. Even my aunt agrees that the settlement was unjust in terms of asset distribution. She certainly doesn't believe you're deserving of such a substantial amount."

"What I deserve isn't for you to decide."

"I am the woman Alex loves most, and I have a say," Isabella retorted contemptuously. "He married you because of me."
