Chapter 1079 She's Missing
After Ava finished her bath and was about to go to bed, her phone rang.
Ava picked up the phone and answered, "Hello."
On the other end was Alexander's voice. "Ava."
"Why are you calling me again?" Ava frowned. "Alexander, please stop calling me. I really can't handle you doing this over and over..."
"Ava, listen to me." Alexander interrupted her, sounding a bit anxious.
"What?" Ava asked, a bit impatiently.
Alexander said, "Has my mom contacted you?"
Ava replied, "No. Why are you asking about her all of a sudden?"
"My mom is missing. We can't reach her."
Ava's expression changed, and she immediately put away her impatience. "Missing? Have you reported it to the police?"
"Yes, we have. That's why I wanted to ask if you've been in touch with her."
Ava thought for a moment, saying, "I did see her last night at Golden Bites Restaurant."
"Really? What time did you see her?"
Ava answered, "It was just before 8 PM. I had just finished dinner and was about to leave when I saw her with a woman who looked to be in her sixties. That woman might be her client. I talked to your mom for a bit, and then I left. I haven't been in touch since."
"My mom went missing last night. Do you remember what that client looked like?"
Hearing this, Ava also felt that something was wrong and started to feel a sense of urgency.
"I don't remember very well. She was wearing heavy makeup and looked like a wealthy lady. She must be a big client at the bank. Can we check the restaurant's surveillance footage?"
Alexander's voice was very heavy. "That's the problem. The restaurant's surveillance footage is gone, so I have no idea who my mom was with. I'm going crazy trying to find her."
Ava went to the living room and closed the door. "Do you think it has something to do with that client?"
Alexander sighed. "I don't know."
He sounded very anxious. "There's no way she would be completely unreachable for no reason. The restaurant's surveillance being tampered with is clearly intentional. I'm worried something has happened to her."
Ava also started to worry, but she couldn't do much to help.
"Alexander, don't panic. Send people to look for her, and push the police to use their connections to find her."
"I know. You should rest now; I won't disturb you anymore."
"Is there anything I can do?" Ava asked.
"It's okay. I can't ask you to go out looking for her in the middle of the night. I'll find a way to find my mom. By the way, Ava, can you come and keep my grandma company tomorrow?"
"Of course," Ava said. "I'll go over first thing in the morning. But grandma doesn't recognize me anymore. Will she be okay with it?"
"It's fine. Even if she doesn't recognize you, she likes you. She was talking about wanting to see you today. She feels you're very familiar and she wants to see Sunny."
Ava agreed. "Alright, I'll be there tomorrow."
"Sorry for disturbing you so late," Alexander apologized.
"It's okay. I should be the one apologizing. I didn't know you had such an urgent matter, so I was a bit harsh at first. Moreover, I do care that you lied to me, but I'm also glad you don't have cancer."
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone. Ava didn't hang up but waited patiently.
Alexander spoke, "No matter what, I lied to you. I was wrong. I didn't know any other way to spend time alone with you, so I resorted to this. You're right; it was despicable."
Hearing Alexander's dejected tone and thinking about Mia's disappearance, Ava didn't want to argue with him now. "Don't think about it anymore. Finding your mom is the most important thing now. I'll also think hard and see if I can come up with any clues. If I do, I'll contact you."
Alexander responded, "Okay, I'll leave it at that. I need to go find my mom."
After that, they both hung up.
Ava walked back to her room. Sunny was awake, lying on the bed with wide-open eyes.
"Sunny, what if Mia is really missing? If I had known this would happen, I would have remembered every detail from our last meeting. I was too careless."
Suddenly, Ava thought of something. "Right, Bishop was there too."
Ava immediately took out her phone and called Bishop. She redialed the number Bishop had called her from earlier that morning, unsure if he would answer.
The phone rang for over forty seconds, but he didn't pick up. It eventually hung up automatically.
Ava didn't call again, thinking he might be busy and unable to answer.
A few minutes later, Bishop called back.
"Ava, what's wrong? Why are you calling so late? Did something happen?" Bishop's voice was filled with concern.
"Don't worry; I'm fine. I just have something to ask you."
"What is it?"
"Last night, the woman we saw at the restaurant was my mother-in-law in the past. And now she's missing. The last time I saw her was at the restaurant, and the client she was with is very suspicious because the restaurant's surveillance footage was tampered with."
"That's serious," Bishop said gravely. "How can I help?"
"Do you remember what that client looked like? Or any other details?"
"Hold on a second," Bishop said, pausing for a moment before continuing, "The woman was wearing a Patek Philippe Calatrava 5287G limited edition watch. There aren't many people in the world who own that watch. You could start by checking that."
"Got it. Thank you. This is a very important clue. I'll inform Alexander right away. You should get some rest."
"Okay, if you need anything else, let me know."
"Alright, goodbye." Ava hung up and immediately called Alexander.
He answered right away. "Ava."
"Alexander, I just got a clue. The cilent was wearing a Patek Philippe Calatrava 5287G limited edition watch. You can check who owns that watch in the country. It should narrow it down quickly."
"That's a very useful clue. Thank you for thinking of it," Alexander said gratefully.
"Alexander, it wasn't me who thought of it. It was Bishop." Ava didn't want to take credit.
"What?"
"I was having dinner with him at the restaurant last night, so I called him and asked. He told me this clue."
