Chapter 461 All About Interests
Alexander was shocked. "Do you think I am responsible for how he has turned out now?"
"Isn't this an investigation? Without thorough examination, how can we pinpoint the culprit? Some people are masters of deception," Ava punctuated, her last three words delivered with biting intensity.
After hearing this, Alexander felt like losing his mind.
The officer's gaze fell on Alexander. He noticed scars on Alexander's face and hands, indeed like those left from a fight with someone else.
Ava's hands were trembling. She didn't want it to be this way, and she didn't want this to be done by Alexander. However, she found that she couldn't recognize him anymore.
Moreover, if he continued to stay here, it would only force her to sign the organ donation consent form. Therefore, it would be best for him to depart.
"He is my ex-husband, often conflicting with my current husband. They have fought more than once. Yesterday, he suddenly approached me seeking reconciliation, but I declined. His emotions ran high, and at that moment, William arrived. In order to protect me, a conflict ensued between them."
"Ava, do you have to slander me like this?" Alexander clenched his fists.
"I haven't said a word that slanders you. Everything I said is the truth."
Since William had transformed in this manner, she felt no guilt about casting suspicion on everyone. Her words were grounded in truth, yet concealing a part about what Alexander had done to her yesterday. She chose to withhold the truth, believing she had done her utmost.
If he did not harm William, he would surly be fine after the investigation.
If it was him who made William like this, she wouldn't cover for him either.
"And," Ava continued, "he just hit someone."
Ava pushed Eason in front of the police. "He hit my friend."
Alexander snorted coldly.
She was ruthless!
"Alexander, please come with us to the police station for investigation."
Alexander gazed coldly at Ava, his eyes filled with disappointment.
He took a deep breath, calmed himself down, and said, "Okay, I'll make a call to my lawyer."
Alexander took out his phone and dialed a number, informing the lawyer of his current situation.
Then he hung up the phone and followed the police out.
Eason was the person he hit. If responsibility was to be investigated, they would both have to go back to the police station for questioning.
Before leaving, Alexander turned his head, his eyes filled with coldness.
He felt very disappointed.
After the chaos outside ended, the doctor opened the door and walked out of the ward.
Ava immediately stepped forward and asked, "Doctor, how is he?"
The attending doctor took off his mask and said, "We temporarily saved William's heart, but the current situation is worrying. He may still have other complications."
"Then please continue your efforts to save him," Ava insisted.
The doctor sighed. "Ava, I understand your current feelings. However, as a doctor, I must tell you the truth. Given William's current condition, prolonging it will only lead to multiple organ failure. His brain had ceased all activity, yet his heart, liver, and kidneys matched successfully with three other patients in urgent need of transplants, so..."
"Do you make every effort to save him?" Ava questioned, "What you should do now is to search for information, and study all similar cases worldwide, rather than just thinking about organ donation!"
"Ava, we have done our best."
"No, you haven't. If you had, you wouldn't keep coming to me about organ donation. From my perspective, since you found that William's organs match several other patients after his admission to this hospital, you have given up on him!"
Ava was not a naive person. She knew that even in hospitals that saved lives, there were many dirty deals and scandals behind the scenes, and not all doctors were good doctors.
If the patient couldn't afford the surgery fee, they would be immediately kicked out of the hospital, left to die helplessly even though they had a chance of being saved.
So, it was all about interests and nothing about sincerity.
Even people with a conscience might have found themselves involved and feeling powerless.
She didn't trust the doctors in this hospital.
"Ava, your remarks are rather excessive. As physicians, we are dedicated to doing everything in our power to save our patients. We would never..."
"Then don't mention organ transplants to me again. I do not consent.."
The doctor was a bit angry, and thought, 'She was too selfish.' However, he was helpless. Without her signature, the surgery could not proceed. If she caused trouble, things would get out of hand.
After the doctor left, Ava felt completely drained, almost falling.
Vicky supported her. "Ava, are you okay?"
Ava burst into tears. "What should I do?"
Vicky was at a loss on how to proceed in the current situation. At this moment, several bodyguards walked over.
"Ava, Vicky."
Vicky said, "You guard the door of the ward well, and protect my brother. No one is allowed in except for medical staff."
The bodyguards nodded.
After Vicky finished speaking, she said to Ava, "I will take you to grab a bite to eat, while the bodyguard will be watching over my brother."
Ava shook her head. "I'm not hungry. I want to stay here with William."
"He is my brother, and I do worry about him, but merely staying by his side now serves no purpose. The best we can do is take care of ourselves, especially you. If you neglect your food and drink, he will be concerned. You are paramount in his heart."
Ava raised her gaze, gazing intently at Vicky, feeling a wave of emotions within her. Eventually, she nodded. "Fine."
