Chapter 848 It's so Unfair

Vicky bolted out, tears streaming down her face.

Once she got in the car, she slumped over the steering wheel, bawling her eyes out until they were all puffy and red.

She thought, 'Why's her fatehr gotta be like this? Why?'

She always figured Dalton was just tough, only mean to others, but she never thought he'd go full psycho on her too.

She was his daughter, and he almost choked her out just now.

Vicky's neck was all red and sore, and she was still struggling to catch her breath.

She drove over to Mandy's place. The second she walked in, she cried out, "Mandy!"

She had to spill everything to Mandy, needed her to have her back.

Hailey heard the ruckus and rushed downstairs, "Vicky, what are you doing here?"

"Mom." Vicky ran over and hugged her tight. "Mom."

"What happened, Vicky? Why are you crying like this?"

Hailey hugged her back, worried.

Then she noticed the red marks on Vicky's neck, like she'd been hurt.

Hailey asked, "Vicky, what happened to your neck? Let me see."

She lifted Vicky's head and saw the red marks, like someone had tried to strangle her.

"What happened? Who did this to you?" Hailey asked, her voice sharp, "Tell me now."

Vicky wiped her tears. "It was Dad."

"What did you say?"

Hailey was stunned. "Why would Dalton hurt you? What happened?"

"Mom, I... I..." Vicky was sobbing uncontrollably.

Hailey quickly sat her down on the couch, grabbing tissues to wipe her tears.

"Vicky, stop crying and tell me what happened, now."

Hailey was super worried. Vicky was her only daughter, born after a lot of struggles. She treasured her. Even though Dalton was usually tough, he'd never hit Vicky before.

But seeing those red marks on Vicky's neck made Hailey so mad she felt dizzy.

Vicky asked, "Mom, why does Dad want to divorce you? Did you know all along? It's because of Mia, his so-called first love!"

Hailey froze, staring at her in shock.

"Vicky, where did you hear that?"

"Mom, tell me, is it true?"

Vicky grabbed Hailey's arm and shook it. "Tell me, when you married Dad, did you know what kind of person he was? Did you know he had another woman?"

Hailey's hands shook. "That was years ago. Dalton and I are already divorced. Can we not talk about it anymore?"

"No, I wanna talk about it." Vicky cried, "William and I are grown-ups now, we're both in our twenties. Don't we deserve to know this stuff? Aren't we family? I'm your daughter, why didn't you tell me? You don't treat me like your daughter at all!"

Hailey tried to explain, "How could that be? You're my precious daughter." Her heart ached at Vicky's words, and she hugged her tight. "It's not that I didn't want to tell you, it's just that these things are in the past. Bringing them up again is pointless. Besides, Dalton and I are divorced now, and we both have new lives."

"Only Dad has a new life," Vicky said angrily. "Mom, you don't have a new life at all. You cry all the time, feeling sad and lonely, but Dad? He's living it up with Mia. You've always sacrificed for him, gave everything for him, but what about Dad? He used you up and then divorced you. He's a total jerk, a scumbag!"

"Vicky, don't talk about your dad like that." Hailey covered her mouth. "He's still your biological father, you can't say that."

Vicky pushed her hand away, "Why can't I say it? I will say it! Mom, you don't know, he's back with Mia. She's all well-maintained and still charming, but I think she's not as good as you. I really don't get why Dad still misses her. Mom, it's so unfair to you!"

Seeing Hailey's silence, Vicky seemed to realize something.

"Mom, did you know all along? You knew everything, didn't you? You've been putting up with Dad, haven't you? Say something!"

"Vicky, I did know about Dalton's first love. When he married me, I knew his intentions, but I really loved him. I couldn't control my love for him, so I agreed to marry him, as long as he cut off contact with Mia. And Dalton did that. For many years, he really had no contact with her. It was only in the past few months that they met again."

"I don't believe it, Mom. Don't defend him. They must have been together all along."

Hailey said, "Vicky, listen to me." Her heart ached seeing Vicky in such pain, and she felt deeply ashamed. "In all these years, Dalton never once reached out to Mia. It was only in the past few months that he started again. And the divorce between Dalton and me was already brewing before he reconnected with Mia. Divorcing him is a good thing for me too. I don't have to be trapped in that marriage anymore. Now I'm free. I admit I'm still sad now, but I'll be fine after a while. Don't feel it's unfair for me, this was my own choice."
