Chapter 35 The Divorce Was Planned

In their year of marriage, he did his duty as a husband, which was already a big deal for him.

Before they got married, she didn't want him to feel pressured, so she acted like she only saw him as a brother. She knew Alexander had feelings for another woman, but she didn't know why Isabella had left him.

Alexander kept it from her, agreeing to marry her to keep Scarlett stable while hiding Isabella. This move satisfied Scarlett's demands, protected Isabella, and let him divorce her anytime with a clear conscience.

Ava suddenly laughed. She had thought Isabella had left on her own. She had hoped that after they got married, Alexander might fall in love with her. But instead of love, Alexander gave her this "gift."

"Ava, you promised Alexander that as soon as I came back, you would divorce him. Don't forget that."

Ava's heart felt like it was being cut with a knife, her mind nearly splitting. Isabella knew even this. It seemed Alexander had told Isabella everything about their year of marriage; they had always been in contact.

"Didn't Scarlett go on a two-month business trip? He was with me," Isabella said, "He was always with me, traveling together. He was happy when he was with me."

One shocking revelation after another hit Ava, leaving her dazed. She hoped this was a nightmare she could wake up from.

She remembered that night when Alexander came back in a hurry and wanted to sleep with her. They hadn't seen each other for two months, and she loved him so much that she didn't push him away. The whole process was peaceful; he was gentle and considerate. But the next morning, he asked for a divorce. Was this all part of his plan?

If he wanted a divorce and had spent those two months with Isabella, why did he come back that night and be with her? Was he squeezing out her last bit of value?

Ava clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms, the pain helping her stay somewhat clear-headed. Taking a deep breath, Ava knew she couldn't lose her composure because of Isabella's words.

"Why are you telling me this? Alexander is going to divorce me anyway. Are you trying to provoke me? Do you think I care?"

Her heart felt like it was being shredded, but she didn't want to show weakness. This was the last bit of dignity she could hold onto.

"Provoke you?" Isabella shook her head, looking innocent. "You misunderstand. I'm doing this for your good."

Hearing "for your good" almost made Ava barf. "For my good? You really dare to say that."

Isabella sighed. "I really am doing this for your good. You don't know how much Alexander loves me. He's an excellent man, and I don't believe you wouldn't fall for him. You know his feelings for me; he won't love you. I'm telling you this so you can face reality and not hold onto false hopes."

Ava despised Isabella's demeanor, but in a way, she wasn't wrong. Pie in the sky? Yes! All the kindness Alexander had shown her was a lie.

She had thought he was a responsible man, but now it seemed everything was for Isabella, all part of Alexander's plan, including his kindness to her. Only by being good to his "wife" could Isabella be safe.

Ava said to herself inwardly, 'Alexander, you are truly a master of disguise. No wonder you love Isabella. You two are really soulmates, even matching each others’ skill in disguise.'
