Chapter 235 Unreasonable
"You even know you don't come around often!" Scarlett snorted, "Only showing up when it suits you, I might have ended up all alone if it weren't for Ava."
Alexander moved closer and took a seat beside the old lady, "Grandma, how can you say that? I promise I'll visit you more often from now on."
Scarlett let out a chuckle, "How many times have you said that? I don't believe a word."
"Grandma, doesn't Alex have something he wants to discuss? Maybe we should hear him out," Ava Anderson interjected in her soft voice.
Hearing her refer to him as "Alex," it struck a chord in his heart, a gentle hit from something soft; he thought he would never hear that again from her.
"Hmph, fine," the old lady grunted.
She turned to face Alexander , "Let’s hear it, then. What’s on your mind?"
Alexander looked past the elderly lady and caught another glimpse of Ava. Just as he was about to speak, the old woman suddenly stood up. "I need to use the restroom. When you get to my age, you're always running to the bathroom. You two sit tight for a bit."
After she spoke, the old lady, leaning on her cane, walked away, with the butler slowly helping her along.
Once he was sure Scarlett was out of earshot, Alexander spoke coldly, "What are you doing here? Didn't you run off with William already?"
Ava frowned at his icy tone and question. "Why would you think I ran off with William Bennett?"
"It's not just a thought, it's a fact. You packed your bags and left with William Bennett right after our divorce. Isn't that running off?" He seemed displeased.
Ava was bewildered.
She had left the house earlier that day to instruct Alexander's staff about her absence. It made sense that he knew she was gone, but how did he know she left with William? Bennett's car had been parked outside without coming in.
Either Alexander had returned just in time to see them, or he called the butler later to inquire and the butler happened to see and told him.
In any case, there were only those two possibilities.
"Mr. Mitchell, if I had run off with him, why would I be here now? Don't you even think before accusing me?"
Alexander raised his hand and tugged at his necktie, seemingly agitated. "Aren't you with William? Isn't that what you said, that you two were already an item?"
"I..." Every time she saw Alexander, Ava got angry. She was increasingly finding him unreasonable. They were already divorced, and yet she still had to put up with his nonsense!
"Alexander, don't forget we are divorced. Who I'm involved with is none of your business. What gives you the right to talk to me like that?"
"What's wrong with how I'm speaking to you? Why are you so angry, unless you're feeling guilty?"
"Why would I feel guilty? It seems to me, the louder you are, the guiltier you feel," Ava retorted.
Alexander said, "So, you came to see Grandma today to tell her you're already messing around with another guy, fresh off your divorce? If it weren't for me dragging you back from another man's place the night before your divorce, you'd have spent the night with him!"
Ava trembled with anger as Alexander's words became increasingly offensive.
"You're right, everything you've concocted in that head of yours has happened, not a word off. Aren't you getting hitched to Isabella Harrington? Congratulations to you, and while you're at it, extend the same to me; I'm about to marry William! Happy now?"
