Chapter 704 He Was Very Scared
Alexander frowned. "Do you have a crush on someone? Spill it, who is he?"
He looked like a dad catching his daughter sneaking out to meet a boy.
Ava was only fifteen, after all.
To Alexander, teenage romance was a big no-no. If he found out, he'd probably beat the guy up.
Ava quickly shook her head. "Nope."
She denied it over and over, but Alexander just wouldn't buy it.
"Who is it? Someone from school? That punk with the tattoo?"
"No, Alexander, stop guessing. There's no one. I'm all about my studies, not dating."
Seeing her serious denial, Alexander pretended to believe her.
He didn't want to push too hard.
She might actually cry.
And that would break his heart.
"That's right, focus on your studies. Love can wait. You've got your whole life ahead of you," Alexander said.
In his mind, he thought, 'When she grows up, she'll have a sweet romance.'
'She'll be cherished and loved.'
'But why does that thought make me so uneasy? Who's the lucky jerk gonna be?' Alexander wondered.
"Got it, Alexander," Ava replied quickly.
That day, neither of them admitted who they liked.
But the air between them was warm, and they seemed closer.
It was subtle. They were more than friends but not quite lovers.
Alexander once told Ava she'd have plenty of time for dating after she finished school, but he never expected she'd marry him without even dating.
Thinking of this, Alexander gave a bitter smile. He started daydreaming.
'Maybe William made Ava feel the sweetness of love, which is why she's so devoted to him.'
'In less than three months, they've already pledged their lives to each other.'
'Ava's experiencing a love she's never felt before and is deeply involved, unable to pull herself out.'
'In times of crisis, people's true feelings come out. They can fake it in normal times, but not in critical moments.'
'So, she chose William.'
"Alexander, if something's on your mind, you can talk to me."
A voice suddenly came from behind; it was George.
"Don't stand there." George was trembling. He took slow steps towards Alexander but didn't dare to be too aggressive. "Alexander, come down first, okay? It's not safe to stand there."
"If you want some fresh air, I can push your wheelchair and take you to the park. It's not good to stand there."
"Or, I can take you to the rooftop to see the view."
George didn't dare to tell Alexander not to commit suicide because he was worried that Alexander might actually do it. So he carefully probed and comforted him.
As soon as he came in, he saw Alexander standing on the windowsill. He was very scared as this was a high building, and if Alexander jumped, he would die.
"Dad, why didn't you care about me when I was little? Only when you suddenly realized you loved Mom did you start caring about me. Didn't you love me when you didn't love her? Only when you loved her did I become your son?"
He suddenly threw a series of sharp questions.
George frowned slightly. "What are you talking about?"
"Did you change your attitude towards me to win back Mom?"
"Alexander, what are you talking about? Stop talking nonsense and come down."
"Nonsense?" Alexander gave a bitter smile. "Do you really not know whether I'm talking nonsense or the truth?"
