Chapter 782 Making Me Lose Face
The next day, Mia called George and said coldly, "Don't forget to come by today to draft the divorce papers. I'm waiting. If you don't show, I'll take you to court. I have all the evidence of your cheating."
After hanging up, they met at a coffee shop within an hour.
George rushed in. "Mia, what's going on? You need to give me a reason."
"What reason? I don't want to be with you anymore."
"But we barely see each other. We don't even live together."
"Well, I don't want that either," Mia replied coldly. "I don't want to see you again. I want a divorce and to cut ties completely."
"If I don't agree, are you really going to take me to court?"
"Yes. I've had enough of your threats."
George clenched his fists, his face pained, eyes bloodshot.
Mia suddenly couldn't look him in the eye.
She had to admit that, since George expressed his regrets, he'd been completely obedient, letting her vent her anger.
Even if she ignored him for months, he wouldn't bother her.
He was so easily pleased, a single smile from her could make him happy for hours.
Sometimes she almost forgave him, thinking he might truly have changed.
But most of the time, Mia couldn't forget the past. George had hurt her for ten years. Who could endure that?
Life is short and precious.
Even Dalton had only hurt her for two years, but George had caused her ten years of pain. She couldn't accept that.
"George, I'm not the same Mia I used to be."
"I don't care. Mia, you're the one I love forever."
"Really?" Mia sneered. "Then have you slept with other women?"
"No," George said firmly. "Since I came back, it's only been you."
"What a pity," Mia said with a faint smile. "I've slept with other men. I don't hold back my desires like you. When I want sex, I find a man. We're different."
In reality, Mia hadn't been with other men. Despite their issues, she still contacted George when she had physical needs. She lied to make him disappointed and agree to the divorce. They were no longer right for each other.
George's eyes widened in anger.
"No, I don't believe it. You're not that kind of person."
"I am. George, let's be realistic. It's over. Divorce is best for both of us."
"Mia." George moved towards her.
Mia stepped back.
"George, I'm begging you, let me go."
"Who is he? Tell me."
"I don't know him. Just a one-time thing," Mia said. "I find different men each time. You won't track them down."
"I don't care!" George said, desperate. "Mia, I don't care. If that's what you want, fine, but please don't leave me. I'm begging you."
Mia shook her head. "No, let's get a divorce. You'll be free. There are plenty of women out there, and you're rich. Many would want to be with you."
She didn't expect George to humble himself this much.
"No!" George shouted. "I only want you!"
People around them started to stare.
Mia's expression turned cold. "George, are you trying to make me look bad? Playing the victim to make me seem cruel?"
George wiped his tears. "I know I was wrong. I won't do it again. Mia, I have something to tell you."
"What is it?"
"Mom is sick. Can you go see her?"
Mia frowned. "What's wrong with her?"
"She has Alzheimer's. Yesterday, she thought I was in my thirties and that Alexander wasn't married."
"What?" Mia's heart sank. That did sound like Alzheimer's.
But she knew George was bringing this up because she asked for a divorce. He always ran to Scarlett for help.
"Fine, I'll see her. Now can you divorce me? I've already got a lawyer. I don't mind making this public; I don't care anymore."
She had to keep her distance from the Mitchell family. She was entangled with Dalton now, and she had to face it alone. She didn't want to drag the whole Mitchell family into this.
"Mia, if I died, would you care?"
George couldn't bear losing her.
"I wouldn't care. Your life is your business. As long as you can face your son and mother, do whatever you want."
George closed his eyes in pain. He never thought it would come to this. Mia was determined.
Finally, he gave up his fantasies and opened his eyes slowly. "I'll divorce you. But we have to visit my mom first, okay?"
"We'll visit her after the divorce."
"No," George insisted. "We visit her first, then get divorced. At least we can visit her as a married couple to avoid upsetting her. If we visit her after the divorce, we'll have to lie. I don't want that. My mom has been good to you. Don't hurt her."
"If we visit Scarlett together, will you really agree to divorce me immediately?"
"Yes, I will."
Since George compromised, Mia made a concession too.
"Fine, I'll go with you now. But after that, we must come back and get divorced immediately."
