Chapter 45 Having a Baby
A sudden, sharp pain shot through Alexander's arm, but he kept his composure, acting as if it was nothing. "Dad, Mom, you're here," he greeted.
George awkwardly adjusted his tie and cleared his throat, "If you wish to do such things, do it in your room and close the door. Doing it in the living room like this; aren't you afraid of becoming a laughingstock? Are you that desperate?"
Scarlett, leaning on her walking cane, approached with a teasing smile, "I think you two aren't desperate enough; why isn't there any movement in Ava's belly yet? Alex, it seems you need to be more eager."
A hint of embarrassment flashed in Alexander's eyes as he frowned, "Grandma, it's not what you think."
"You were passionately kissing your wife on the sofa, so what else are we supposed to think?" Scarlett asked bluntly.
They were all adults here; there was no need to act innocent.
Alexander was left speechless. If no one had come, he couldn't guarantee what would have happened next.
Ava seemed to be frightened. She quickly stood up from the sofa, ran to Scarlett, and held onto her arm, "Grandma, stop talking."
Upon seeing her granddaughter-in-law's flushed face, Scarlett smiled kindly yet cunningly, "Why are you shy? Shouldn't there be some movement in your belly by now?"
Scarlett gently patted her flat belly, "Alex, how about I give you my living room, and we'll leave first. You can work hard and give Ava a baby."
Ava's eyes widened, and she shook the old lady's arm, "Grandma, please stop talking!"
How embarrassing!
What vulgar words!
This was so humiliating!
Ava felt like she couldn't face anyone anymore. She hid behind the old lady, her head hung low, not daring to lift it.
Alexander's face also stiffened for a moment, but it was fleeting. To change the subject, he turned to his mother.
It seemed like he hadn't seen her for a long time.
A hint of surprise flashed in Alexander's eyes, and for the first time, a childlike expression emerged on his usually stern face, "Mom."
Mia Thompson nodded slightly; her movement full of grace. She maintained a neutral expression, neither warm nor cold.
She was dressed in a proper white suit, looking elegant and neat. Her long black hair was tied into a low clean and tidy ponytail.
She was a beauty; the kind that was unforgettable at first sight. Even standing in front of Alexander, if she didn't say anything, no one would guess she was his mother.
She took good care of herself and looked like she was still in her 30s.
George stood a distance away from Mia, his body language showing a clear divide between them. Their interaction, or lack thereof, gave off an air of awkwardness. It was as if a wall had been erected between them, isolating them from each other.
The atmosphere in the living room suddenly became stiff.
Alexander originally wanted to divert attention away from him and Ava, but it made the situation between his parents even more awkward.
Ava watched the scene in confusion. She only knew that her father-in-law and mother-in-law lived separately, but she didn't know anything else. Since no one in the family had told her anything, she naturally wouldn't ask.
"Grandma, dinner is almost ready, and everyone is here. Let's go to the dining room," Ava's timely voice broke the silence.
Mia, holding a purse in her hand and wearing high heels, walked up to Scarlett and politely said, "Mom, it's been a long time. I've been too busy recently and couldn't come to see you. How have you been?"
"Good." Scarlett smiled, "Everything is fine."
Scarlett then turned to George, "George, look at you. Your wife finally comes over, and you're acting standoffish. What's the matter?"
