Chapter 88 I Was Blind

"Shouldn't you feel compelled to apologize after such an act? You'd best make an appearance at the hospital, or else..." Alexander's words were cut short as Ava abruptly ended the call.

Ava found it impossible to maintain a civil conversation with him. It was as if he was spiraling into madness, his rationality slipping away. Whenever the topic turned to Isabella, he seemed to lose all semblance of reason, his cognitive faculties seemingly deserting him.

Why did Isabella's transparently contrived drama distress Alexander so? Was he simply a fool? Ultimately, it all stemmed from Alexander's deep-seated affection for her. When a man cared deeply for a woman, he naturally adopted a protective stance.

His world began to revolve around her, and regardless of whether she was right or wrong, his instinct was to shield her first. In such a situation, the concept of right or wrong became irrelevant. The only thing that mattered was defending the woman he loved with every fiber of his being. It was akin to parents who spoil their children, shielding them even when they are clearly in the wrong....

Nearly an hour had passed since Ava's conversation with Alexander. Freshly showered and dressed in her pajamas, Ava was ready to retire for the night. She attempted to soothe her frayed nerves, determined not to let the incident affect her. Suddenly, the door to her room was flung open and an irate Alexander stormed in.

Startled by his abrupt entrance, Ava retorted irritably, taking note of his grim expression, "Ever heard of knocking?"

Ignoring her, Alexander seized her wrist in a cold, hard grip. "Come with me!" he commanded, pulling her towards the door.

"What are you doing? Where are you taking me? Let go!" Ava protested, but Alexander's strength was overpowering, leaving her unable to resist. "Alexander, have you lost your mind?" Fearful for the safety of her unborn child, Ava ceased her struggles.

Abruptly stopping, Alexander turned to face her, his hand resting on her slender shoulder, "Who's the mad one here, Ava? Why would you treat Isabella like that? Are you conspiring with the entire Mitchell family to torment her?"

"Bully her how? By splashing water on her face? Do you even know what she said to me? She said..."

"Whatever she said doesn't matter. You shouldn't have treated her like that, especially knowing she's unwell!" He refused to listen to Ava's explanation.

"Is her ill health an excuse to harm others?" Ava retorted.

"She hasn't hurt anyone. It's all of you who've been targeting her, labeling her 'the other woman,' slandering her! Let me clarify this, she's not 'the other woman.' She's the one I intend to marry, and I won't tolerate anyone referring to her in such a manner again!"

Tears welled up in Ava's eyes. "Then why don't you just marry her? Draft a new divorce agreement and I'll sign it. Why do you care about the Mitchell family? If you love her that much, marry her without a second thought!"

"Ava!" Alexander roared, "You're fully aware of our situation. Are you taking advantage of the fact that we can't divorce right now, to act as you please, driving Isabella to attempt suicide!" The issue seemed to have struck a raw nerve in Alexander. It was more than he could bear.

Ava remained silent, at a loss for words. No explanation would suffice. He had made up his mind.

Mia was right, he was blinded by love, refusing to face reality.

"Ava, I was so wrong about you. Ten years of knowing you and I failed to see your true colors. I was completely blind!"
