Chapter 781 Alzheimer's Disease

George was losing it. Mia suddenly wanted a divorce, and she wouldn't answer his calls or messages.

Desperate, he turned to his mom, Scarlett.

"Mom, Mia wants a divorce. She won't talk to me. Please help."

As soon as he walked in, he grabbed Scarlett's hand, and she was already getting a headache from his whining.

"George, you're over thirty. Can you act your age?"

"Mom, I..."

George froze.

"Mom, how old did you say I am?"

"You don't know your own age? Do you think you're still three?" Scarlett shook her head. "I've told you to treat Mia well and stay away from other women, but you never listened."

"Mom, that was years ago."

"Years ago? Alexander is only ten, and you've missed out on everything. You think you can just waltz back in and expect Mia to forgive you?"

George remembered she used to be like this years ago.

But how could she say Alexander was only ten?

"Mom, did you say Alexander is ten?"

Scarlett tapped his head. No matter his age, he was still a kid to her.

"You don't know your own son's age? George, how can you be so careless? I'm really disappointed in you."

George hesitated, then saw the butler signaling to him.

"Mom, I'll be right back. I need the restroom."

"Go ahead. You're a grown-up now, yet you still make me worry."

George got up and followed Lukas to a secluded spot.

Lukas looked serious.

"Lukas, what's going on?"

Lukas sighed, "She's been forgetting things a lot. Sometimes she thinks it's years ago."

George's heart sank. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"She wouldn't let me. Sometimes she remembers, but she doesn't want you to worry."

George clenched his fists. "Has my mom been to the hospital?"

Lukas shook his head. "No, she probably knows what's causing her symptoms."

'Alzheimer's,' George thought, feeling a heavy blow.

Lukas looked helpless. "Mr. Mitchell, she handles everything herself. Even if she's sick, she doesn't want you to know. Just go along with her. Even if she forgets, pretend you don't notice. It's the best thing for her."

Lukas had been by Scarlett's side for years and understood her best.

George's heart ached as he looked at Scarlett in the living room.

He had neglected his wife and son when he was younger.

Now, in middle age, he didn't even know his mom had Alzheimer's.

He always thought Scarlett was in good health. No matter what, she was always there. Even as he approached fifty, he could always turn to her.

Just like today, he came to her like a child, wanting her help. The thought made George feel ridiculous.

He was this old and still needed his mom, not even knowing she was sick.

Scarlett never turned to them, no matter what happened.

He used to resent Scarlett for making him marry Mia.

He resented everyone for it, but later he understood why.

Scarlett always wanted the best for him, even if her methods weren't perfect.

George returned to Scarlett's side, feeling sad.

"Mom."

"George, you're back. What's the matter?"

George's heart ached. "Nothing, I just wanted to see you."

"How's Alexander? He called me earlier saying he'd come over, but he hasn't."

Scarlett remembered this. Her condition was erratic; sometimes she forgot, sometimes she remembered.

"Mom, Alexander's been busy. I'll have him come see you soon."

Scarlett sighed. "Take your time. You're all adults now, and it's understandable that you're busy with your lives."

"By the way," Scarlett suddenly thought of something. "I plan to have Alexander marry Ava. What do you think?"

George rubbed his nose, forcing a smile. "That's great. The sooner they get married, the sooner you'll have grandchildren."

"Ava is a gem. I really want her to be Alexander's wife," Scarlett said with a smile.

"Indeed." George's voice choked.

So many words were stuck in his heart.
