Chapter 702 Apologize to Her

"Back so soon? I thought you'd be gone for ages," Scarlett said, with surprise in her voice.

Alexander shrugged. "Yeah, I was supposed to be, but I had some stuff to handle here, so I wrapped things up early."

"All this running around must be wearing you out. You need a break. Don't push yourself too hard," Scarlett said gently.

"It's fine, Grandma. I can manage," Alexander assured her.

"I can hear it in your voice, you're exhausted. I've been tough on you because I want you to succeed. Now that you have, I'm proud. But don't overdo it. Rest when you need to."

Alexander rubbed his nose, eyes a bit red. "I get it, Grandma. I'll make sure to rest."

"Oh, by the way," Scarlett remembered, "Ava called earlier. She was asking where you went. Didn't you tell her? Are you two having problems again?"

Scarlett was worried about their relationship. She didn't want to meddle but needed to know.

Alexander went silent.

"What's wrong? Are you having issues?" Scarlett pressed.

"We're not having issues."

"Really? Then why didn't she know you were going abroad? She sounded upset when she called. Did you upset her again?" Her tone had a hint of reproach.

"I didn't upset her." A sudden pain hit his heart.

'Why does everyone always think I'm the bad guy?'

'I have hurt her before, I admit. But why is it always my fault when something goes wrong?' Alexander felt wronged.

"So what's going on? You owe Ava. It's all your fault that you've ended up in this situation. You can't keep hurting her. She’s sacrificed a lot for you. She speaks well of you, but you keep letting her down."

Scarlett's words hit hard.

Alexander's mind went blank. Some words were clear, others fuzzy.

"Alexander, did you hear me? Next time, apologize to Ava. She's soft-hearted and won't hold it against you. Call her and apologize," Scarlett insisted.

After a few seconds, Alexander spoke, "Grandma, maybe, just this once, she should apologize to me?"

Scarlett was firm. "What could she possibly have to apologize for? You were the one in the wrong."

Alexander lowered his head, holding his forehead, barely able to sit upright.

Finally, he took a deep breath, composed himself, and spoke slowly, "I understand. I'll apologize to her."

He made the mistake first. He deserved this.

"That's right, apologize soon. No matter what, you're family. Even if you're divorced, you still need to protect her and not let anyone hurt her."

Scarlett's tone was full of concern for Ava.
