Chapter 690 Unable to Breathe

Ava's attitude was very firm, even seemingly somewhat unfeeling.

"Ms. Anderson, don't worry. Of course, you can sign the consent form. I'll arrange the surgery for you right away."

While hospitals generally seek the family's consent to avoid disputes, Ava's determination to proceed and her threat to involve a lawyer left the hospital with no choice.

Ava stayed in the VIP room of the obstetrics and gynecology department, with William accompanying her throughout.

He tucked Ava in.

"William, you should go," Ava said coldly.

William was taken aback. "What's wrong?"

Ava turned her head and looked at him coldly, saying, "You don't want me to have the surgery. You don't want this child, do you?"

If she hadn't been so determined, would William have opposed the surgery? If so, her child would be in danger.

"Ava, how could that be? This is also my child. How could I not care about him?"

"No, this isn't your child," Ava said. "William, I know you care about me, but this isn't your child after all. When Alexander was hurt, I cared about him, and you were so bothered by it.  How can I believe you'll treat Alexander's child as if it were your own?"

If it were in the past, she would never have said such things. But now, Ava was heartbroken and couldn't care less about the consequences.

William was in disbelief. "Ava, are you doubting me? Do you think I would harm your child?"

Ava said, "I don't know. William, that surgery is the best option, but you wanted to stop me. I really don't know what you were thinking at the time."

"You want to know what I was thinking?" William was deeply hurt by her words. "I was thinking about you. The doctor said the surgery was risky, and I was afraid something would happen to you. So I wanted to consult more doctors to see if there could be a better way. I'm your husband. You didn't even discuss it with me."

"How could I discuss this with you? The surgery is what's best for my child!"

William's heart was almost breaking from the pain, "I wasn't trying to stop you from having the surgery. My thoughts were simple. As your husband, I wanted you to consider me, to discuss everything with me. Even if you had already decided. At least let me know. But you don't care about my feelings at all. I was so worried about you, terrified something would happen to you. When the doctor said the surgery was risky, I was frantic. I wasn't trying to stop you from having the surgery, I was just too worried about you. Please don't misunderstand me like this!"

Ava felt helpless.

She suddenly didn't know what to say.

William's eyes were red, and hot tears of grievance fell.

"If you had known we would end up like this, why did you choose me? You might as well have chosen Alexander. No, I should have died earlier. When I encountered those thugs on the street, I shouldn't have survived. I should have died on the spot, so I wouldn't have to hear your piercing words. You've broken my heart, making me wish I were dead!"

William turned to leave.

Ava grabbed his wrist in a flash. "William."

"Why are you stopping me? To let me continue to hear your hurtful words?"

If he listened any longer, he wouldn't be able to breathe.
