Chapter 568 Just Like This
Ava knew that if one day Alexander found out she was pregnant with his child, it would definitely have an impact on him, whether that impact was good or bad.
Ava didn't know how he would find out.
She had imagined the scene of telling him in person, and then she felt very sad.
Ava pulled a chair up to the edge of the bed and sat down. "Alexander, to be honest, although I don't hate you, deep down inside, I still resent you. You're right. This is the kind of resentment that only exists between family members. I don't know how long I will resent you, but I admit you're right. The relationship between me and the Mitchell family cannot be severed because of our feelings for each other."
Ava took her phone out of her pocket, opened the blocklist of phone numbers, and removed Alexander's number from the blocklist. "I have removed you from the blocklist, not because I have let go, but because I've thought about it carefully. I can't cut off ties with the Mitchell family. What if something happens on Grandma's side and you can't reach me? But this doesn't mean you..."
"I understand." There was a hint of joy in Alexander's eyes. "It doesn't mean I can call you or text you casually. I get it. I won't do that. If there's nothing important, I won't disturb you." He was genuinely happy from the bottom of his heart; his efforts had finally paid off, even if it was just a little bit; he felt pleased. Ava nodded and then put her phone back in her pocket.
"And about what the doctor told me, I'll say it to you again. You can't drink alcohol for the next three years. If you get drunk again and damage your stomach, you might not be able to eat solid food for the rest of your life. You'll only be able to eat liquid food forever. If you insist on drinking, I can't stop you. I'm not your wife. I can't watch over you every day. It would help if you took responsibility for your health. You're still young. If something goes wrong, it's a lifetime issue. That's all I can say," Ava warned.
"I won't drink again," Alexander said seriously, "I promise you..."
Just as he was about to say it, he suddenly stopped. He wanted to say he promised her, but upon careful thought, he found it ridiculous. How many things had he promised her before? And what happened in the end?
The word "promise" was now filled with irony.
Seeing Alexander fall silent, Ava didn't rush him but instead looked at him for a while before asking, "Why aren't you speaking?"
Alexander smiled helplessly. "I suddenly remembered that I'm not qualified to promise you anything, even though I really want to."
"Since you can't, then don't say it. Besides, it isn't very sensible for you to promise me in this regard. After all, it's your own body. You need to promise yourself. You're still young; if something goes wrong, it's a lifetime issue. That's all I can say," she emphasized again.
Alexander nodded. "Okay, I understand."
"And you can't eat spicy food; you don't need me to tell you this; you never liked eating that," Ava added.
"Ava, you like spicy food," Alexander said.
Ava frowned. "Yes, so what?"
"I used to think you didn't like spicy food. However, later, I found out you never ate it, just to accommodate me," Alexander said.
"That's right," Ava said, "But this kind of thing won't happen again in the future, I won't force you anymore."
Ava glanced at the time. "I've called John to send someone to take care of you. I won't stay here any longer."
Alexander opened his mouth, wanting to say something as if to keep her, but when it came to speaking, he nodded. "Okay, but remember to eat. You probably haven't had lunch or dinner."
They attended a wedding at noon today, didn't even have a meal, and then the farce happened. Now, it was already dark outside.
Ava seemed a bit tired.
"I know. You rest well." Ava turned to leave.
Alexander called out to her, "Ava."
Ava turned around. "Is there anything else?"
"Will you come to see me again?" Alexander felt extremely insecure when he asked this question, and his tone was cautious.
"We'll talk about it later." Ava didn't give him a direct answer.
"Rest well," she repeated and left the ward. It seemed that this was the only way between them.
