Chapter 607 Pretending Pitiful
Seeing Alexander's grievance and frustration, Ava felt a flicker of doubt.
For a split second, she seemed to have an inappropriate thought: Had she really misunderstood Alexander? She pondered, 'He looked so innocent, almost desperate. This kind of despair is similar to what I felt when he misunderstood me. I was telling the truth, but Alexander didn't believe me then and only trusted Isabella because she knows how to act pitifully.'
But soon, Ava felt angry at herself for having such thoughts. She shouldn't think this way. Alexander had deceived her too many times. And Isabella, who was so good at pretending, how could she compare to William?
"I believe you," Ava said calmly.
Alexander was taken aback by her response, a look of disbelief flashing in his eyes. He stared at her, hoping to find even a shred of trust in her eyes, but what he heard was ultimately just an illusion. What he saw in Ava's eyes was endless sarcasm and indifference. Although she said she believed him, the pain this response caused him was even more intense than if she had outright said she didn't believe him.
William frowned slightly, a hint of unease flashing in his eyes. He thought, 'Does Ava really believe Alexander? It seems only Alexander could hear the sarcasm in Ava's words.'
Ava continued, "Alexander, of course, you did nothing wrong. It's always someone else's fault. You're always right. Everyone in this world should believe you."
Ava took William's arm and said, "William, let's go."
Alexander clenched his fists. "Ava, I kept my promise to you, and I didn't bully him."
"That's right. You never bullied him," Ava said angrily, "You're the mighty CEO. How could you possibly bully anyone? You've never argued with him. You've never laid a hand against him."
Ava laughed sarcastically. "Alexander, you're really ridiculous. At least you used to own up to your actions, but now you don't even dare to admit it. You're nothing but a coward!"
"That's right. I'm a coward!" Alexander almost shouted. "If I weren't a coward, I would have taken you back no matter the cost. I wouldn't care if you were willing or not. If I weren't a coward, do you think William would still be standing here in one piece? Your current husband is quite the character. I know you believe him. You believe whatever he says, including when he falls weakly to the ground. Even if he claimed I wanted to kill him, you would believe it!"
Ava snorted coldly. "Alexander, if I don't believe him, should I believe you instead? And does it matter if I believe you? As long as Isabella believes you, that's enough. Aren't you two getting married the day after tomorrow? Don't you find your current pitiful state revolting?"
Even if Alexander didn't find it disgusting, Ava did. She thought, 'Alexander is about to marry Isabella, yet he still can't let go of me, putting on a heartbroken act. Who is he trying to impress?'
Seeing the deep sarcasm in Ava's eyes, Alexander felt a profound heartbreak. He didn't even feel the pain anymore, only despair!
A flicker of cunning flashed in William's eyes, and a smug smile appeared on his lips. When he looked at Alexander, his eyebrows raised, showing a victorious expression.
Alexander's gaze was as sharp as a sword, staring directly at him. She thought, 'William was indeed good at pretending!'
When Ava turned to look at William, his expression immediately shifted to one of pitiful innocence.
