Chapter 43 Still Feeling Wronged
After a few seconds passed, Alexander answered the phone, "Hello."
With Grandma beside her, Ava couldn't speak too coldly to Alexander. She had to use a warm tone, "Honey, it's me."
Hearing her warm tone, Alexander frowned and was somewhat puzzled, "What's up?"
"When will you come to Grandma's?"
Alexander glanced at his watch, "I'll come later."
"Can you come earlier?"
"What's the rush? It's still early."
"Come earlier and spend more time with Grandma."
"Is this Grandma's idea?"
Ava hummed in agreement.
"Then you tell her that I'll come later."
"But..."
"What but? Have you forgotten what you said before? You've been enduring being with me for a long time. I'll come later so you can be more comfortable and eat your meal in peace."
Alexander hung up the phone.
It seemed like he was holding a grudge. That was the only reason she could think of since he was bringing up things she had said before.
She had said those things out of desperation, afraid that Alexander would find out she was pregnant. She didn't expect him to latch onto that.
"What did he say?" Scarlett asked curiously.
Ava forced a smile, "Grandma, he said he'll try to make time to come over."
"That boy really..." Scarlett sighed.
Seeing that she seemed a bit tired, Ava suggested, "Grandma, let me help you back to your room to rest for a bit."
"Alright."
Everyone would be eating together later, which would require some energy. It wouldn't hurt her to rest a bit beforehand.
After Ava helped Scarlett back to her room and tucked her in, she left.
As soon as she reached the door, she took out her cell phone and sent a text message.
【I don’t want our issues to affect Grandma. She wants to see you. Don't let your feelings towards me give you a reason to make her upset. I told her you'd come as soon as possible. No matter what you think of me, you don’t need to be a bad grandson.】
Alexander didn't respond to Ava.
But less than an hour later, he arrived at the old Mitchell family home.
Ava was knitting a scarf.
Grandma liked to knit when she was bored, and she often taught Ava, so Ava often helped her knit.
She was so engrossed in knitting that she didn't notice when Alexander arrived, not until the tall man sat down next to her.
Ava was startled, and the knitting needle jabbed into her fingernail. Although the tip of the knitting needle was rounded and didn't hurt even if it pricked the skin, Ava was so panicked that she jabbed it in hard, separating a bit of her nail from the flesh.
She yelped, and the ball of yarn and knitting needles on her lap fell off her knee onto the floor.
She then clutched her hand in pain.
Alexander frowned, bent down to pick up the things from the floor, placed them on the side table, and then grabbed her hand.
"Why are you so careless?"
The gap in her fingernail was red. Although it wasn't bleeding, it was clear that it hurt quite a bit, after all, the fingers were sensitive.
"You came without making a sound, gave me a scare, and now you're blaming me?"
Ava pulled her hand back forcefully.
Hearing the woman's cold tone, Alexander narrowed his eyes in displeasure, "So you're saying, it's all my fault?"
"I didn't say that." Ava didn't want to argue with him anymore; there was no point in such arguments.
But Alexander seemed possessed, insisting on clearing up this issue.
"Before we got married, you said you saw me as a brother and that you had no feelings for me. Even when I suggested divorce, you said the same. And before I took you to the hospital, you said you'd endured me long enough. Now that I'm giving you freedom, you still feel wronged?"
"Yes, yes, yes, I'm being ridiculous; Mr. Mitchell is always right."
Ava picked up the yarn to continue knitting.
