Chapter 60 His Apology

Alexander became somewhat flustered once he realized how angry Ava was with him. He felt like a child who had done something wrong.
Amelia was worried that Ava would get too worked up. Just as she was about to comfort her, she heard the man's voice unexpectedly pop out, "Miss Bennett, I'm sorry."
At first, Amelia thought she had misheard. It wasn’t until she raised her head and met the man's apologetic gaze did she realize it was real.
Although there was no remorse in his eyes, he had apologized to her for Ava's sake, which was quite rare.
Amelia was so surprised that she forgot to respond for a moment.
After a few seconds, she came to her senses and cracked a smile, "It's okay."
As Ava's good friend, if she were to have a disagreement with Ava's husband, it would put Ava in a difficult position. So, Amelia said it was okay.
"Miss Bennett," Alexander said, his voice noticeably calmer than before, "what I meant to say is, I'm here. It's late, and you should go rest."
This was more like the composed Alexander she knew.
Now that he had apologized, Ava's mood improved significantly. "Amelia, you have work tomorrow, right? Go get some rest. Thanks for your help today. I'll treat you to a meal next time."
"It's okay; you should rest too," Amelia said.
Ava nodded. "Be careful on the road, or let Alex drive you."
"No, no, I'm fine. I'll drive myself. Goodbye."
Amelia left the hospital room, refusing to let Alexander, this intimidating figure, escort her out.
After leaving the room, Amelia didn't go home but slept in the hospital's on-call room. She had to work the early shift the next day, and the back and forth would be too much of a hassle.
Once Amelia had left, Alexander tucked Ava in and asked, "What's really going on with your stomach? Why would you suddenly have a stomachache? Who's your primary doctor?"
"It might be because I've been eating some irritating food recently, which has affected my digestive system. It's not a big deal."
Ava felt very guilty. She wasn't sure if she could keep this from him forever. After all, he was only one step away from the truth.
"You were here last time, and now you’re here again. It's getting worse! Have you been taking your medication properly?"
Ava's hand, hidden under the blanket, was sweaty. She didn't know how to explain everything.
"You should know that your mood can also affect your health," Ava said reluctantly. "I've been feeling down recently, so it's normal that my health isn't great. Maybe it'll get better after we divorce."
Alexander felt as if he had been punched in the gut.
He wanted to say something, but considering Ava's current condition, he held back.
Whatever it was could wait until she was better.
"Ava, do you really want to divorce me that quickly?" Alexander's question wasn't filled with anger, but calmness, like he was merely asking.
Ava clutched the blanket tightly and nodded painfully. It was better to rip off the band-aid quickly. Why drag it out?
Alexander lowered his gaze, a hint of loss flashing in them before he nodded, "I understand."
He reached out, pulling the blanket up over her, "Sleep."
"You should go home early too. You're busy every day. You need to rest." Even if they were getting a divorce, she didn't want things to get ugly. After all, they had known each other for a long time.
Alexander murmured a soft 'okay' in response, "I'll leave when you're asleep."
Ava was truly exhausted. She closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep.
In her half-asleep state, she seemed to recall something.
Had she forgotten to ask Alexander why he came to her room tonight? Was there something he wanted to say?
