Chapter 471 Endless Disappointment
The records indicate that Ava was not their biological offspring, but rather an adopted child.
Brandon's inner emotions ebbed and flowed, a profound seriousness evident in his calm gaze.
Not long after, Ava returned, but her face was somewhat pale.
Brandon looked up, saw her expression, and asked, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Ava shook her head. "I'm fine."
Being pregnant, she was uncomfortable no matter what.
"Do you want me to find a doctor to check on you? You look really bad," Brandon said in a somewhat worried tone.
Ava said, "I'm really fine. Maybe I'm just too worried about William."
Ava persisted, and Brandon did not impede her progress.
"By the way, I just searched the news and read about your parents. They are heroes. If it weren't for them, many people would have been in trouble," Brandon said.
Ava replied, "They are indeed heroes in my heart. It's just a pity that I can never see them again."
"In their final moments, they must have been thinking of you. After all, you are their only biological daughter," Brandon said.
Ava nodded. "Yes."
Regarding her parents' matter, mentioning it now didn't bring sharp pain to Ava's heart anymore. After all, it had been many years. But when she recalled it, she still felt a bit sad.
Brandon said this intentionally to probe her, and it seemed that Ava believed she was her parents' biological child.
Her parents had not told her that she was adopted.
After dinner, Brandon and Ava returned to the hospital.
At the hospital entrance, they happened to run into Alexander.
Alexander also saw Ava, and when their eyes met, the air seemed to freeze.
Alexander saw the man next to Ava and recognized him.
He was typically an understated person who held a high official position. Even the mayor bowed in his presence.
Previously, at an event, Alexander had encountered him, engaging in conversation.
Now, he found himself standing next to Ava, which meant that this man must be related to William.
Ava didn't want to pay attention and was ready to go inside.
"Wait a moment," Alexander called out to her.
He walked directly to Ava and stood in front of her.
"What's wrong?" Brandon asked.
Facing Brandon, Alexander remained expressionless. "I want to talk to Ava."
Ava said, "Alexander, there's nothing for us to talk about. I've already made myself clear."
"I'm not asking you to sign anything," Alexander said, "Whether you believe it or not, William's affairs are not of my concern. However, if you insist on attributing it to me, then so be it. We shall settle it in court when the time comes."
Alexander never anticipated that one day he and Ava would reach such a point of contention, almost to the brink of legal action.
Brandon remarked, "I've heard about this too. Before William encountered trouble, you two had a fight."
"That's right," Alexander said coldly, "We did fight. But I haven't seen him since then. If you think I'm the prime suspect, then we'll have to wait for the final investigation results."
Alexander wasn't worried because he had a clear conscience. However, he was disappointed by Ava's suspicion.
Ava actually suspected him of being that kind of person!
If he really were that kind of person, Isabella would have had a heart transplant long ago. How could it have been delayed until she was close to death?
Brandon, distinguished and influential, possessed profound cunning and keen insight. He had navigated through all manner of sordid affairs and encountered the most deceitful of individuals. Observing Alexander's unblemished countenance, he was inclined to believe that, to some extent, this matter was unrelated to him.
William was his nephew, so he couldn't let someone innocent take the blame. If a mistake were made, the real culprit would escape justice. Therefore, he had to uncover the truth. Whether it was Alexander or not, he would investigate thoroughly.
"Alright," Ava said, "Let's wait for the final investigation results. Our words won't change anything. Do you have anything else to say?"
Alexander replied, "I'm in the process of transferring Isabella to another hospital. If nothing unexpected happens, we won't meet in this hospital again."
Avoiding his gaze, Ava coldly said, "Got it."
Faced with her cold attitude, Alexander's heart ached.
Now, it was her turn to hurt him.
However, he, too, harbored boundless disappointment towards her.
He had plenty to convey to her, yet as the words reached the tip of his tongue, they were swallowed back, and he turned away.
Once Alexander departed, Brandon observed Ava's tense countenance, acutely aware of the impact Alexander had on her.
"William and Alexander fought because of you, right?"
Ava nodded. "Yes, I'm sorry, it's my fault."
If it were someone else, Brandon would definitely be upset. However, it was Ava. He couldn't help but feel a different emotion.
"They are both adults, yet they can't control their emotions. You don't need to apologize. You surely don't want to see such things happen," Brandon said.
Suddenly, Ava realized that Brandon was very reasonable. It was the first time she had met Brandon, and inexplicably, she felt a sense of closeness, an indescribable feeling.
Perhaps it was due to her marriage to William. With this added layer of kinship, his demeanor towards her naturally differed from how he treated strangers.
