Chapter 746 I Have Evidence
Vicky hadn't been gone long when William lost his appetite.
After tidying up a bit, he headed back to Ava's room.
On the way, his phone buzzed in his pocket.
William pulled it out and checked the caller ID.
Unknown number.
He answered, "Hello?"
"Mr. Bennett, hello."
The voice sounded familiar.
"It's you!" William recognized immediately.
It was the same voice as Ava's kidnapper.
"I'm touched you remember."
"You scoundrel, you still have the nerve to call me?" William shouted.
"Of course, I do. The cops still haven't caught me. Their efficiency is a joke. I've been waiting, but they can't find me. I almost turned myself in out of frustration," the man said, sounding annoyed.
Hearing his arrogance, William snapped, "Why are you calling? Don't you dare hurt Ava again. I won't let you!"
"Hurt her? That's not right," the man laughed. "Last time, I saved her. If I hadn't rescued her from those kidnappers, she would've been raped and killed. I'm her savior. Later, I let her go. You don't think you saved her, do you?"
William clenched his fists. "What do you want?"
"Mr. Bennett, were you happy when that bullet hit Alexander in the chest?" the man suddenly asked.
William's heart sank.
"Whether I was happy or not, what does it have to do with you? You did it; you're the one who hurt him!" William retorted.
"That's right, I did it. But when he tried to call for help, who took his phone away? That's debatable, isn't it?" the man shot back.
William's face turned grim. He clenched his fists and looked around.
Seeing people coming and going, he suddenly felt everyone seemed suspicious, like they were all watching him.
William quickly moved to a secluded corner. Once he was sure no one was listening, he lowered his voice. "I don't understand what you're talking about."
The man scoffed, "Really? Then why are you nervous? Why did you hide to make this call, afraid someone might hear?"
William's scalp tingled in fear.
He stepped out and looked around. "Are you watching me?"
"Do I need to watch you for this?" the man laughed. "I can guess because you're guilty. It seems you have some shame, knowing what you've done."
William took a deep breath, gritted his teeth, and said, "What did I do? I don't understand."
He wouldn't admit it easily. What if this guy was recording?
The man laughed. "You’ve got a strong will. Doesn't matter if you don't admit it. I have proof. Check your phone."
William saw a new message.
He opened it. It was a video.
The video clearly showed Alexander, injured and bleeding everywhere.
He tried to call for help, but William took his phone, smashed it, and stomped on it, mocking him.
It was clear from the video that he wanted Alexander dead.
William's face turned ghostly pale.
This guy had actually recorded it!
He had been too careless. At the time, he only wanted Alexander dead and didn't think much, resulting in this evidence against him.
William's mind went blank.
A few seconds later, he put the phone to his ear.
"What do you want from me? Are you trying to blackmail me? Videos can be faked. With today's tech, you can't frame me." William's voice had a hint of tension.
The man replied teasingly, "Really? Then I'd like to try sending this video to Ava and see if she thinks it's fake. I'll hang up now, Mr. Bennett."
As the man finished speaking, William quickly said, "Wait."
"What is it?" he asked, "Got something else to say?"
Forcing himself to calm down, William said, "Even if the video is fake, it would still have a bad impact if Ava saw it. What do you want?"
He wouldn't let this guy have leverage over him.
He would never admit the video was real; otherwise, he’d be walking into a trap. This guy was trying to trick him.
"Hahaha," the man suddenly laughed. "You are so stubborn."
William asked worriedly, "What's your goal? Last time, Alexander got shot. Is it my turn now?"
"No," the man said, "Last time is over. I'm contacting you because I need a favor."
"What do you want me to do?"
The man replied slowly, "I won't tell you yet. I'm calling to remind you. Don't think you can get away with it. I know what you've done, and I have the proof to back it up."
As soon as he finished speaking, the man hung up.
William looked at his phone screen and angrily smashed his phone on the ground.
Passersby were startled and looked at him in shock.
Realizing he had lost control, William quickly smiled and apologized to the onlookers, "Sorry."
He picked up his phone, put it in his pocket, and walked away as if nothing had happened.
