Chapter 544 Concealing Her Pregnancy

Ava snapped back to reality from her daze and shook her head. "It's nothing, I'll be right back."

She turned around, and Alexander watched her leave.

After returning to the hospital room, Ava explained the situation to William. She was going to attend a wedding, but she didn't tell him that she was going with Alexander.

Given William's current condition, if she mentioned Alexander's name, she would have to explain more, and she worried that William wouldn't be able to handle the shock. Everything he believed in would turn out to be a mistake.

"William, I'll try to come back as soon as possible. You should rest well. If anything comes up, you can call me."

"It's okay, Ava. You go ahead. Seeing you busy with your things makes me happy, too."

Ava tucked him in. "Then I'll be off. I'll bring you some candy when I get back."

William couldn't help but laugh. "Honey, are you treating me like a child?"

"Yes, exactly like a child. So, you need to grow up quickly."

Sometimes, Ava would joke with him, and they would both be very happy.

William nodded. "I'll grow up quickly and grant you a true husband."

The smile on Ava's face suddenly froze. After a long pause, she forced a smile. "I'm leaving now."

After Ava departed, the smile on William's face gently evaporated, replaced by a soft wrinkle on his forehead, a brief flash of puzzlement in his eyes, and a quiet undertone of discomfort.
Why did Ava always deflect whenever he uttered words of intimacy?

Her avoidance was not verbal but rather manifested in her actions and gaze, as if such intimacy was a bridge too far for them. Buthe was her husband. It was normal for them to kiss, hug, or even sleep together. Why was she shying away from being intimate with him?

When he kissed her briefly last time, he distinctly sensed a hint of unease in Ava's gaze.

Her evasion was subtle at first, and initially he didn't think much of it. However, as it occurred more frequently, he began to sense that something was amiss, yet he couldn't quite pinpoint what it was.

Ava approached Alexander.

"Let's go."

Alexander stood up straight. "Did you explain everything to William?"

Ava nodded. "Yes."

"Did you tell him we were going together?"

Ava replied, "That's none of your business. I don't want to answer your questions."

She exhibited neither anger nor indifference; her demeanor was marked by a remarkably tranquil tone.

Alexander's eyebrows raised slightly, and he nodded. "Okay."

She didn't tell William.

Ava let out a small sigh of relief. At least he wasn't as aggressive as before. Ever since that conversation in the car, he seemed to have changed.

"What kind of clothes do you like? I'll take you shopping," Alexander asked.

"Don't bother," Ava said, "I'll just wear what I have on."

Today, she deliberately adorned herself in a loose, pale green dress that exuded charm and elegance, perfectly concealing her slightly protruding abdomen.

As her belly grew, her attire progressively embraced more flow and looseness, adeptly veiling the signs of her pregnancy.

"You're wearing that?" Alexander looked her up and down. "Are you sure?"

Ava glanced down at herself. "Why not? This dress is quite expensive. It won't embarrass you."

Alexander frowned. "That's not what I meant. I meant, don't you want to dress more formally?"

Ava smiled faintly, "It's not my wedding. Why should I dress so formally? I don't want to steal the spotlight. Do you want me to wear a custom gown or something?"
