Chapter 680 Hidden Worries
Ava looked distraught after she was brought home by William.
As soon as they got back, Ava immediately called Alexander.
She remembered Alexander's number.
Seeing how skillfully Ava dialed Alexander's number, a flicker of displeasure flashed in William's eyes.
However, he knew that Ava wouldn't be able to reach Alexander.
As expected, Ava held the phone to her ear, but after a long time, she still couldn't hear the dialing tone. She tried again, but it still didn't go through.
Alexander's phone remained unreachable.
"Ava," William stepped forward. "I know you're worried about him, but you need to take care of yourself right now. After all, you're pregnant. I'll get a doctor to check on you. You and the baby are the most important, okay?"
Ava lowered her head and gently stroked her belly, tears streaming down uncontrollably. "The baby, it's mine and Alexander's. I need to tell him I'm pregnant."
William stood behind her, his gaze chillingly cold.
He gently took Ava's hand and said, "Ava..."
Suddenly, Ava pulled her hand away, holding her belly as if avoiding his touch.
William was slightly taken aback, his palm now empty.
Ava had lost her sanity; her mind was filled with thoughts of Alexander. It seemed as if she could hear the masked man's voice again, counting down, forcing her to make a choice.
A sharp pain surged through her heart. She clutched her chest, unable to hold herself up any longer, and fell backward.
"Ava!" William caught her from behind, holding her tightly. "Ava, what's wrong?"
"Alexander," Ava kept calling this name, and gradually, she passed out.
An hour later.
In the living room, Brandon sat on the couch, having smoked several cigarettes.
He had been waiting anxiously.
Hearing footsteps, he turned and saw William walking towards him.
"Uncle Brandon," William sat on a nearby couch.
"How's Ava?" Brandon seemed to hide his deep concern, showing only a hint of care that wouldn't arouse suspicion.
"She has some scrapes, but nothing serious. She's just too emotional and exhausted. Let her have a good sleep."
Although the doctor had examined her and found nothing seriously wrong with Ava's body, William's brow remained tightly furrowed. He seemed very restless, his eyes filled with fatigue.
"William, you should have told me when you went to rescue Ava. Going alone was too dangerous."
By the time Brandon got the news, it was too late and William had already left on his own.
Fortunately, he was fine and had managed to bring Ava back safely. However, he couldn't shake the feeling that things weren't as simple as they seemed.
The kidnapper had let them go so easily and hadn't asked for anything, which seemed unrealistic.
William said, "What's done is done, and I couldn't think about much at the time. The kidnapper was very cunning. What if he had hurt Ava if I had brought people there?"
Brandon leaned back on the couch, letting out a soft sigh.
"I know you're worried about her, but you should know that you're not the only one who cares about Ava."
"Of course, I know," William's tone suddenly turned sour, "and that jerk Alexander."
At the mention of Alexander, a thick layer of anger clouded William's eyes.
Brandon actually wasn't referring to Alexander, but since William brought him up and seemed a bit off, he asked, "What exactly happened?"
William picked up the coffee on the table, swallowed its bitterness, and said with furrowed brows, "Both Alexander and I arrived at the scene. The kidnapper contacted each of us separately."
William told Brandon about this, but he didn't mention what happened after Alexander collapsed.
