Chapter 15: Are You Mad?

After breakfast, they hung out with Scarlett for a bit. Then Alexander got a work call and had to leave. Ava saw her chance to bring up the divorce agreement and also said goodbye to Scarlett.

"We talked about this earlier. The divorce agreement's been updated. I can sign it today," Ava said, looking at Alexander.

Alexander's eyes darkened. "In such a rush, huh? Are you that eager to divorce me?"

Ava found his tone ridiculous. The divorce was his idea. He was the one itching to be with someone else. What right did he have to be upset?

"The sooner we sign, the sooner it's over. It's better for you," she said, getting ready to leave.

Even though her heart was broken, she wouldn't cry in front of him. Before they got married, she had made it clear that he could ask for a divorce anytime, and she wouldn't cling to him. She had to keep her word.

Alexander stared at her back, his brow furrowed.

Better for her, right?

Ava suddenly turned around. "By the way, Isabella called last night. I told her you were asleep. Sorry for answering your phone."

After explaining, Ava got into the car and waited for the driver to take her away.

After a while, Alexander took out his phone and called Isabella.

"Hey, Alexander."

"What was up last night?" Alexander's voice wasn't cold, but it wasn't warm either.

"Nothing major. I didn't expect Mrs. Mitchell to answer. She seemed really mad at me."

Alexander hung up the phone and got into the car, looking at Ava. "Were you mad?" he suddenly asked.

"What did you say?" Ava looked at him, puzzled.

"Last night, when you answered Isabella's call, were you mad?" he asked again.

Ava forced a smile, hiding her intense heartache. "I have no reason to be mad. I knew she was important to you from the start. Don't worry. I won't get in your way."

They sat in the car in tense silence. Ever since Alexander mentioned the divorce, the atmosphere had been off.

She remembered seeing Ethan with some medicine yesterday, saying it was for Alexander.

"Yesterday, I saw Ethan bringing you medicine. Are you sick?" Was there something she didn't know?

Alexander replied indifferently, "I drank too much, and my stomach was upset. I asked him to get me some medicine to ease it."

From Ava's view, it seemed Ethan hadn't told her the truth. "Really?" Ava was skeptical. "Is it really just to ease it?"

But from Ethan's tone, it didn't seem like it was more than just alcohol.

"Yes, why are you asking?"

Ava couldn't read his hidden expression. She smiled. "Nothing; I'm just asking."

"When will the divorce agreement be ready?" Ava asked again.

"We're going to get divorced sooner or later. Why are you in such a hurry?" Alexander's voice suddenly had an unmistakable edge of irritation.

Ava was startled. "I'm not in a hurry. I want to know the approximate time so I can prepare."

Realizing he had been harsh, Alexander softened his tone. "I told you before, there are still some procedural issues. The review process isn't that fast. We will definitely get divorced. You don't need to worry."

"Got it."

He was the one who wanted the divorce. He was eager to be with Isabella. But now he seemed unhurried, making it look like she was the one eager for the divorce. It was absurd.

"When do you think we should tell Grandma about this? She'll find out sooner or later," she asked again.

Scarlett would know the truth. Just thinking about Scarlett made her sad.
