Chapter 580 Making Him Despair

Ava remained silent for a long time. "William, a lot has happened between us, but please believe that everything will be resolved. I've been by your side all this time. Can you not push me?"

Seeing Ava's eyes slightly reddened, William lowered his gaze, pondered for a moment, then held her arm. "Ava, I never intended to push you. It's just that I'm puzzled, and now that you've told me, I feel..."

"Are you angry?" Ava asked. "If you're angry, just tell me."

William shook his head. "No, I'm not angry. I feel very sad, and deep down, I feel like I can sense something about this."

"William, I'm sorry for making you sad," Ava said.

"Ava, since you can't directly answer my question, it must be a complicated matter. You don't have to say it; you must be considering my well-being. I shall not press you, but may I implore you to promise that in the future, should anything arise, you will be forthright with me? If you'd rather not say it, I certainly won't press you. I want to see you happy, and I'll listen to whatever you say."

William's understanding nature relieved Ava. She nodded and gently patted his hand. "Alright, I promise you. But you also have to promise me not to overthink. If you have doubts, you can ask me."

William softly responded, "Okay, I will."

Ava took out a few tissues and wiped the fine beads of sweat on his forehead. "William, you should rest now. It's already late."

"Are you not going to sleep here tonight?" he asked.

Ava nodded. "Yes, I'll sleep next door. I'm pregnant now, and it's more comfortable for me to sleep alone."

William silently stared at her belly for a long time. Ava, feeling uneasy, asked, "William, if you have any doubts, please speak up. Are you unhappy that I'm carrying my ex-husband's child while being married to you?"

"No," William hurriedly explained, "I believe what you say. Since I knew about this before we got married, I don't mind you being pregnant. Even now, I have this feeling. It's just that I can't help but feel shocked and unsure how to digest it all, especially since I've completely lost my previous memories and suddenly found out that my wife is pregnant with someone else's child, I..."

He bit his lip, at a loss for words.

"William, you've handled this very well. Even with amnesia, you're trying hard to accept all of this. I'm proud of you," Ava said.

William looked up at her, staring blankly. "Really?"

Ava nodded. "Yes."

William let out a helpless laugh. "My wife is pregnant with another man's child, and I calmly accept it. You're proud of me, and I suddenly find it a bit ridiculous."

Ava lowered her gaze and said helplessly, "Yes, it is indeed quite ridiculous."

After sharing bitter smiles, they glanced at each other.

Ava smiled faintly. "William, go to sleep. See you tomorrow."

William watched Ava leave until the door closed. Then, he collapsed on the bed, feeling drained of energy. He stared blankly at the ceiling, his pupils unfocused.

He closed his eyes tightly, allowing painful memories to slowly seep into his mind like sharp thorns as he wallowed in despair.
