Chapter 712 Innocence

After a while, the cops left.

William rushed into the room. "Ava, you okay?"

The police had grilled her again, making her relive the nightmare.

Ava sat on the bed, clutching the blanket. "I'm fine. Don't worry."

William sat beside her and gently pulled her into a hug. "As long as I'm here, nothing bad will happen to you again. I promise."

His eyes shot daggers at Eason.

Eason walked over and sat in the chair by the bed.

"Ava, the police will catch the jerk who kidnapped you. It breaks my heart to see you go through this."

Tears streamed down Eason's face.

Ava pulled away from William. "Eason, don't cry. I'm okay. See? I'm doing great."

"Ava, you must've been so scared."

William's brows furrowed.

He thought, 'Eason's tears come too easily. Is he for real?'

Ava grabbed a tissue and wiped Eason's tears. "Eason, it's over. Don't cry. Your tears make me anxious."

"Okay, I won't cry." Eason forced a smile.

Seeing him smile, Ava relaxed. "That's better. You should smile more."

Eason glanced at William and flashed a bright, polite smile.

But William wanted to rip that smile off his face.

Later, they had dinner together.

Ava and Eason chatted and laughed, leaving William out. He stayed quiet, just listening.

Several times, he tried to join in and get Ava's attention, but Eason always cut him off.

Eason's words were sweet, and he knew just what to say to make Ava happy.

William felt a pang of jealousy.

He hated being overshadowed.

He wanted to drag Eason out and punch him.

He rarely saw Ava this happy. Since meeting her, she had always been worried, with so much on her mind.

He protected her, took care of her, but he had never seen her laugh like this.

'Why does Eason make her so happy? He hasn't done anything. Just a few sweet words, and she's over the moon.'

'It's not fair!' William thought resentfully.

But he swallowed his anger and ate quietly.

He knew he had to be patient. The most patient person often won in the end.

"Ava, you should eat more," Eason said.

Ava smiled. "Eason, I can't eat too much. I have surgery tomorrow. You should eat more."

"Right, right, your surgery." Eason slapped his forehead. "I was being silly. I'll eat more then."

Eason stuffed food into his mouth like a little hamster.

He ate quickly, shoveling in food, but he looked cute doing it, especially with those bright, innocent eyes.
