Chapter 1090 What Should Be Done
The pitch-black night exuded a suffocating sense of oppression.
The large iron gate was opened.
Immediately, a series of rapid footsteps approached.
The lights came on.
Mia lay on the cold ground, trembling, her whole body aching as if it were about to shatter.
Then, a familiar voice sounded in her ear, "Mia."
Mia slowly opened her swollen eyes and saw a figure walking towards her.
"Mia."
Brandon rushed over, picked Mia up from the ground, and saw her body covered in wounds, her clothes torn and disheveled. His eyes almost bled with rage.
Mia, barely clinging to life, leaned weakly in Brandon's arms, barely breathing.
Brandon gritted his teeth, his eyes blazing with fury. He turned to his subordinate and ordered, "Take care of everyone guarding this place. Leave no one alive, and don't let them die easily."
"Yes, sir."
The bodyguard walked out with a gun, and soon, the sound of men screaming echoed from outside.
Brandon, trembling, took off his coat and carefully wrapped it around Mia, then lifted her in his arms.
"Mia, I'm taking you away. I won't let anyone hurt you again."
He carried her out of the warehouse.
Once in the car, Mia lay in his arms.
Brandon didn't dare hold her too tightly; her body was covered in wounds.
The doctor beside them injected Mia with a painkiller and treated her injuries.
She had been tortured, her body covered in wounds.
Brandon's eyes were terrifyingly red.
"How is Mia? Will she recover?"
The doctor said, "Ms. Thompson needs to rest well and receive daily care. She will gradually recover, but she may also need psychological intervention."
After experiencing such an ordeal, even a man would struggle to cope.
"Mia."
Brandon gently kissed her sweat-soaked forehead, ignoring the blood on her face and showing no disgust.
His eyes were full of guilt and pain. "I'm sorry, Mia. I'm so sorry."
It was Mandy who had harmed her.
As Mandy's son, he felt immense guilt, as if he had caused her suffering himself.
Mia, half-conscious, heard Brandon's voice. She opened her mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, but in the end, she couldn't utter a word and fainted again.
Brandon lifted his head and instructed the bodyguard in the front seat, "Notify the Mitchell family that Mia has been rescued. Tell them not to worry. I will personally meet them soon and let Mia contact them."
Mia remained unconscious for three days.
When she woke up again, she found herself in a hospital room.
Her whole body ached as if her bones had been dismantled.
Her mind was muddled, and her eyes felt glued shut, taking great effort to open.
A faint smell of disinfectant wafted to her nose.
A soft towel, slightly warm, gently wiped her eyes. Soon, Mia's eyes were fully open, and her vision became clearer.
She slowly turned her head and saw Brandon sitting by her bed, his eyes full of worry.
Mia opened her mouth, seemingly wanting to say something.
Brandon put down the towel and whispered, "You're finally awake. I'll get you some water."
He turned and poured a glass of water, carefully helping Mia sit up and bringing the warm water to her lips.
Mia drank several sips. Her throat hurt, and she started coughing violently. Brandon gently patted her back.
Mia's body was in pain.
Brandon pressed a button by the hospital bed.
Soon, the doctor walked in.
Brandon stood aside as the doctor examined Mia.
"Mr. Smith, Ms. Thompson needs to rest and recover. It's best if she doesn't get out of bed and has someone care for her 24/7."
Brandon nodded, "If there's nothing else, you can go."
The doctor then left.
Brandon came to Mia's side, sat by her bed, and held her hand. "Don't worry, I won't let anyone hurt you again. I've also contacted the Mitchell family and told them you're okay."
Mia forced a smile, "Do I look okay to you?"
Brandon lowered his eyes, a hint of sadness flashing in them. "I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing to me?" Mia asked hoarsely.
Brandon said, "I'm sorry for what my mother did to you."
"Your mother?" Mia gritted her teeth. "So, what are you going to do about it?"
Brandon frowned slightly, a look of helplessness in his eyes. He gently held her hand.
"Mia, let's discuss this after you recover. I promise I'll give you an explanation. For now, I would like you to focus on getting better. I'll visit you every day and stay with you."
Seeing the hesitation in Brandon's eyes, Mia withdrew her hand.
"Are you going to protect your mother?"
"Mia, it's not that I want to protect her, I just..."
Brandon suddenly stopped, not knowing what to say.
"Just what?" Mia pressed.
"Mia, your current condition isn't good enough to talk about this. I promise, once you're better, we'll find a satisfactory solution."
Seeing the plea in Brandon's eyes, Mia bitterly smiled.
"What did you tell the Mitchell family? Did you tell them I was kidnapped and tortured?"
"No, if I told them that, they would stop at nothing to find you. I told them you had something to deal with and would be away for a few days. I also promised to meet them and explain your situation in person."
Mia closed her eyes and sighed softly.
"Don't let the Mitchell family know about my situation. When you meet them, tell them I wanted to be alone to clear my mind, so I turned off my phone and disappeared."
She didn't know if Brandon was protecting Mandy or if he understood her well enough to know she didn't want the Mitchell family to worry. Either way, she didn't want them to know.
Brandon thought for a moment and said, "Then I'll tell them I took you away and erased all traces. How about that?"
Mia nodded, "Okay, tell them that."
