Chapter 578 Not His

Ava's heart raced. "William, when you were in the hospital before, you weren't feeling well."

"It's just an excuse," William said, "Even though I wasn't feeling well, is there any problem with us hugging or kissing? And now that I've been discharged, the doctors said it's okay to engage in some sexual activity. Can you agree to my request?"

Ava stared at him in silence.

William took a step closer to her. "Darling, come here for a hug."

William wrapped his arms around Ava's back. "Darling."

Even with amnesia, William was still a normal man. Holding his beloved woman, his mind was already wandering. He turned his face towards her and whispered in her ear, "You smell so good."

Ava shuddered and pushed him away forcefully, stepping back several times. "No, we can't do this."

"Why?" William furrowed his brow, raising his voice. "Tell me why we can't. I'm your husband. Don't use my poor health as an excuse to avoid me. I don't believe it."

"William, really, we can't." Ava's eyes were a bit moist. "We can't..."

"Tell me the reason." William clenched his fists agitatedly. "I've endured it for too long. Your avoidance makes me feel uneasy, but I care about your feelings, so I haven't said anything. But now I can't hold it in anymore. Forgive my excitement, but I really want to know why."

The atmosphere fell into a deadly silence as Ava stared at William with a sad look, momentarily at a loss for words.

"Ava, you're being too cruel to me. I feel rejected without being told the reason. I don't know what I've done wrong. You keep saying I haven't done anything wrong, so why are you treating me like this? Instead of this, it's better to let me fail in surgery and die on the operating table without facing your perfunctory attitude now," William lamented.

Hearing William speak so decisively and sadly, Ava felt extremely guilty. "No, William, you really haven't done anything wrong. It's all my fault."

"Then what's your problem? If you don't tell me, how would I know? I would think it's my fault..."

"I'm pregnant," Ava finally said.

William was stunned. "What did you say?"

"I'm pregnant." Ava looked down at her belly. She couldn't hide this fact anymore.

At over four months along, the swell of her belly had become unmistakable, obscured mainly by the loose garments she wore. She made a conscious effort to steer clear of William in her day-to-day interactions.

William was stunned for a moment. Then his gaze fell on her belly. "You're pregnant?"

"Yes," Ava said, "It's been over four months."

William's eyes fixed on her belly, a mix of surprise and joy. He took a step forward. "I had no idea all this time."

"No," Ava said, "You knew before, but you had amnesia after the accident. And I've been wearing loose clothes to cover my belly, so it's normal that you didn't know."

Puzzled, William asked, "Why did you keep this from me? Even if I forgot due to amnesia, you should have told me about this right away. I'm your husband, this is our child, we..."

Suddenly, William realized something, staring at her in astonishment. Ava didn't tell him she was pregnant, deliberately wearing loose clothes to hide her belly. There was only one reason, that this child wasn't his.

William looked at her in utter shock. "Ava, is it as I suspect?"
