Chapter 999 Reluctant to Part
William shot Bishop a look full of guilt, his face sincere.
Bishop, staying calm, said, "It's okay. Just make sure you keep Ava safe."
William's eyes narrowed, a flash of anger crossing his face. 'What does he mean by that? Of course, I'll protect Ava. She's my wife, not his. Who does Vincent think he is, lecturing me?'
But William kept his cool and smiled. "Take care, Bishop. I gotta go."
Even though William's expression only flickered for a second, Bishop noticed but stayed composed.
Ava followed William back home. Sunny was still there, and Ava hugged him tightly.
On the way to the airport, Ava clung to Sunny, feeling heartbroken. "I'm so sorry I haven't been there for you, and now I have to leave. But I'll be back as soon as I can. Please forgive me. I'm just swamped right now."
She kept kissing Sunny's little face.
Time flew by, and when they reached the airport, Ava started crying, realizing she had to say goodbye. "William, can't we leave Sunny here?"
"Ava, don't get emotional," William said, patting her head. "You won't have time to take care of him here. It's better if he stays with me. Don't you trust me?"
Ava nodded, "I trust you, William. I just can't stand leaving him. I feel so guilty for not being there these past few months."
William reassured her, "It's not your fault. Giving birth to him was already a huge deal. If you really can't bear to leave him, come back with me. I'll have someone take care of Vincent here."
Ava shook her head, "That won't work. I need to take care of Vincent and finish my classes. If I go back, it'll all be for nothing, and I'll have to start over."
William sighed, "Alright, I'll take Sunny back. We won't be apart for long. We'll video chat, and once I'm done with work, I might bring Sunny to Stellaria. You can visit him too."
Ava gently stroked Sunny's face, "Goodbye, Sunny. I'm so sorry. Once I'm done here, I'll take good care of you."
She felt a deep sense of guilt.
She had risked her life to bring Sunny into the world but couldn't always be there for him, leaving it to William. She felt like a bad mom.
Sunny, swaddled and calm, didn't seem to grasp what was happening. He was too young to understand separation or what his mom meant to him.
William took Sunny in his arms and said, "Ava, I'm leaving."
Ava replied, "Goodbye, William. Please take care of Sunny. Thank you."
"Don't be so formal, Ava." William held her hand and asked, "If I leave, will you... meet Alexander alone?"
"William, why would you say that?" Ava looked confused.
William explained, "Because both you and Alexander are in Stellaria now, and I'm leaving. I'm worried he'll bother you again."
